Gallery Gusto: Woodbury Golf Pro Trying to Draw a Crowd at 3M Championship

Dave Tentis is playing in the upcoming 3M Championship, and hopes Woodbury residents come out to support him.

Patrick Reusse threw down the challenge.

Now it’s up to Woodbury to accept it.

The columnist and radio personality recently put out an on-air challenge to see which Minnesota golf pro could draw a bigger gallery for the 3M Championship: Don Berry or Woodbury’s own Dave Tentis, golf pro at Troy Burne Golf Club.

Patch: How did you score a spot in the 3M Championship?

Tentis: Hollis Cavner, the tournament director, extended me a sponsor’s exemption due to my playing record and the fact that I've volunteered at the 3M Championship for 13-plus years.

Patch: Have you played in the event before?

Tentis: I have not played in the event before. I just turned 50 on May 30—all contestants must be 50 years old or older. It’s going to be amazing. I'm a club professional who now gets the chance to compete against the finest 50-plus-year-old professionals in the world.

Patch: So, you're trying to get a big gallery for the event. Why should folks in Woodbury come out and cheer for you?

Tentis: The venue is amazing, and tickets are free. There is also a nice kids zone where free golf lessons take place.

Patch: What's the strength of your game?

Tentis: It’s pretty balanced, really… no one strength.

Patch: What's your favorite thing about golf?

Tentis: Camaraderie, exercise, fresh air, scenery, challenge, and you can play until very late in life with golfers of all skill levels.
