Thursday Snowfall Could Tangle Evening Commute in, around Woodbury

The Twin Cities could see 2 inches of new snow Thursday afternoon and evening.

After a downright balmy day Wednesday, with the first highs above freezing since Dec. 3, we might all be grabbing shovels on Thursday night.

A weak, fast-moving storm system dropping out of the Dakotas and into western and central Minnesota Thursday afternoon could sweep through the Twin Cities metro just in time for evening commuters to have to hassle with tough roads.

Though it won't be much to shovel, the National Weather Service in Chanhassen is expecting the Twin Cities area, including the eastern part of the metro, to get hit with a shot or two of heavy snowfall, which could make visibility difficult and roads tough to navigate.

"It seems like we're sweeping off the driveway almost every morning. We've had quite a few of these little systems come through," the office stated via its Facebook page.

The snow showers should be wrapped up by later Thursday evening, giving crews to clean up in time for any travelers getting the jump on the Christmas holiday weekend.
