Public Safety, Woodbury High School Staff Team Up for Fundraiser

I got the chance to play for the Public Safety squad, but in the end the event was all about fun.

I had the privilege Tuesday night of playing for the Woodbury in a basketball game against staffers.

The event—a fundraiser for the high school’s choir program—was a blast.

We had coach Scott Swansson throwing behind-the-back passes, special guest free-throw shooter Principal Linda Plante, Public Safety Chief Lee Vague working the low block, and a couple of missed threes from yours truly.

It was a lighthearted, fun game, which ended in a tie and every player from both teams clearing the bench for the final seconds.

The event has been going on for the past several years, Vague said from the bench Tuesday night. “It’s a cool deal,” he said.

I have to say I was impressed by the skills of some of the WHS staffers, and football coach Andy Hill showed some good hands. Unfortunately, we lost our best player to injury toward the end, and I hope he has a speedy recovery.

In the end, $560 was raised for the Woodbury High School choir program. You can find more information on the group’s booster page.

Thanks to Chris Dease for providing the photos from the game!
