Woodbury Woman's 'Random Acts of Kindness Day' is Sunday, Dec. 1

Rindy Gahnz has been doing nice things for others on Dec. 1 for 16 years.

A Woodbury woman plans to pay it forward on Dec. 1, as she has for the past 16 years.

Rindy Gahnz has created a Facebook event announcing this year's "Random Act of Kindness Day."

"Starting about 16 years ago, on Dec. 1st, I kicked off my Holiday Season with a day dedicated to random acts of kindness," Gahnz wrote. "Sometimes it was monetary, sometimes not, doesn't matter."

Last year, Gahnz said she "found a stray dog running on Interstate 94." She fed the dog, took it to the vet and eventually tracked the owner down. The owner "suffered from a childhood disease and couldn't drive." She took care of the dog overnight. The next morning she bought the dog a new collar, leash and tag with the owner's proper phone number before she took the dog home.

The Facebook event page is filled with people's ideas for the day:

Terrianne Thiel-Machin: "I will know what to do when I see it. It could be as simple as opening a door for a person who is overloaded with any kind of burden, talking to a neighbor who is older and never comes out their door invite them over for coffee or tea, you don't have to have money to help but it sure would help so you just have to use what you have."

Jenny Baker: Buy someone's groceries for them and then smile and say I have been blessed in amazing ways so I wanted to bless you today **spreading smiles = a better world

Sabrina Johnson: Volunteer for a nonprofit organization

Barbara Froebel: We are in! My husband who has a love for animals and a heart as big as Texas wanted to protect some stray cats from our coming frigid weather. So we bought plastic bins with lids, cut holes for doors and stuffed them with fleece blankets. Our 5 "condos" are fully occupied as we speak. Let the wind howl. Kitties are safe & warm! We will be looking out for 2 legged critters too.

What random acts of kindness have you done, or do you plan to do? Tell us in the comments.
