Ever Popular Citizens' Academy Registration Now Open!

Now is the time to register for the 2014 Woodbury Citizens’ Academy!

The Woodbury Citizens’ Academy is a ten-week program that engages citizens in their community through knowledge and volunteerism. Sponsored by the Woodbury Community Foundation and the City of Woodbury, the 2014 Academy will hold its first session on Tuesday, February 6, 2014. Weekly Tuesday evening sessions will conclude with graduation on April 10, 2014.

Register for the program by sending an e-mail to Claudia Millington, Citizens’ Academy volunteer program chair, at cmillington@cortrustbank.com with your name, address, telephone, e-mail address. Include your occupation, employer, brief highlights of current volunteer activity and one sentence on why you want to participate in the Citizens’ Academy. The program is free and registration is accepted on a first come, first served basis. Priority is given to those who live or work in Woodbury. The Citizens’ Academy develops future leaders who are so important to assuring a strong, robust Woodbury well into the future. It expands the knowledge of our citizens in a way that encourages more involvement in our community. Planned by a team of community members, each weekly session is focused on a different topic:

* Government

* Public Safety

* Media and Communications

* City Works

* Education

* Volunteerism

Each session provides front line exposure to how local public, private and nonprofit sectors work in their respective areas, as well as how, in unison, they make Woodbury an exceptional place to live and work.

Graduates of the Citizens Academy come away with greater community engagement, inspired volunteerism, and encouragement of philanthropy throughout our city.

Through 2013, more than 90 people have Graduated from the Academy.
