Don't need a study to figure that criminals need weapons to protect themselves from other criminalsRead More more than those without a record. To a criminal a gun is a tool of the trade. To a non criminal it is only a tool to protect oneself from criminals. Yes, we need some sort of gun control. One variable we cannot predict is who is mentally stable at the time they purchase a gun? Same with those who acquire driving licenses. See, you could have saved yourself a lot of money.
Homer April 24, 2014 at 07:35 pm
Well Ron, you did hit a key word - predict. It is not legal to use predictions against a person toRead More predetermine their fate. Each member of our society has a "free will." That's another key term you will find in the US Constitution. Additionally, much of the research funding was cancelled because the insurance agencies were poised to utilize the "predictions" to create a scale of risk to be used in determining premiums. (Not that they don't now try to factor such information into your premiums.) --- There exists a 'form of gun control' in practice, at the state and federal levels. And mental stability is one of the judgement areas in the process to purchase a firearm.

Wow...you guys are nuts. And I am conservative......a "kid" did something he should notRead More have. A parody doesn't harm other people like he was doing. I do not think anyone would want this "kid" to do it to them and their family. Teach the young man right from wrong w/ the proper punishment.....and chill out people....geeezzzz.....

Bob,I don't where you come from maybe russia, Iran I know the leader over there did the same thingRead More to his people. We are not the mayor or police chief, don't take the job if you can't take what comes with it. I am sure the Mayor said to the incumbent, I can do this job better then you, trust me vote for me, not everybody! the kid did not trust him saw who he really was. the kid is a hero, he brought the true colors of the mayor out, and the kid was wright. Now he got to go. and the police chief with him.

Bob... If someone said I was smoking pot with a prostitute I would have to sue them for defamation.Read More That is the proper punishment. And that is what we are trying to explain to you. He didn't yell fire in a crowded theater... that would have the potential to harm other people. They mayor, judges, and police were overzealous at least, or acted criminally at worst. I can't imagine how you think it's acceptable for the police to raid someone's house over a satirical twitter account... this is not Nazi Germany.
Minnesotanative January 26, 2014 at 08:57 am
Interesting when in our own community the police look the other way and allow pot dealers fromRead More another country do their thing. Why not regulate it and get the tax money? It will guarantee that it is a good clean organic variety and we would benefit from the taxes on it. Colorado and Washington and California( medical Marijuana) will be watched closely on this issue.
Eric Anondson January 26, 2014 at 10:40 am
Let's start with reforming drug sentencing around marijuana. It is a true minority of people thatRead More think our drug sentencing minimums are sane and are doing more societal good than societal harm. They are out of all proportion. And then when we fix drug sentencing minimums, we should retroactively revise sentences to all those in Minnesota prisons for drug violations. I'm not convinced "medical marijuana" should be the first hurdle to jump to changing the state's drug policy, we know everything medicinal in "medical marijuana" and regulated and is available over-the-counter by prescription already.

Leslie, You stopped me as i entered a DFL event and bad mouth Gov Dayton because he opposed this. ItRead More appears to me that Gov Dayton is taking a guarded, rational approach to this issue. I am happy he is wanting more research on the entire issue. I think he will change his mind on this after the facts are out. But your approach is too extreme. Take some demeanor from Scott Dibble. H

The dome is good enough for the Vikings but not so for the Gophers. Build them a field you cried, and you the tax payer did. What is wrong with you folks from Minnesota, I mean what is your deal? Karl, you do know you bought the other 2 stadiums right? Is that it, your pissed because you already bought 2 stadiums for 2 crappy teams and you just cannot handle one more? I guess I could see your point then, but you have to come out and say that.

Why didn't the Pohlads and Wilfs go get a loan to build their projects just like everyone else hasRead More to? Because....they use their wealth to buy political favors and get free taxpayer money instead! Also, let's not forget which newspaper owns the majority of the land in this redevelopment and that has been very vocal supporters of the project. Hint: they have a very elderly multi-multi-multi millionaire who somehow thinks he is still relevant.

The Capitol does not have enough Civil War art. And I would correct the author. It was really theRead More War against Northern Aggression, as Lincoln and the northerners started the war against the South, who were correct in standing up to the North for states' rights.

By that logic, the state should not regulate youth and alcohol or prescription drugs. KnownRead More health risks associated with overuse - regulation makes sense for minors.

No the state, or government should not have to limit a person's right to do anything. Tanning is theRead More least of our worries. I hate to go on a rant, but look at everything else they can control. It's becoming a dictatorship rather than a democracy. Now, they are drug testing random public school students, demanding we pay outrageous prices for prescriptions, tanning isn't the issue here. Taking away our right to do what we can is wrong. Although, it is unhealthy and teens should know better by now, the most we can do is educate them not demand change.

Oh, and before I go; since you bring up the story of Jessica Sanford, the fact is there is NO lawRead More that is perfect, no new policy, especially one as large as the ACA, that works perfectly. There are bound to be some people whose insurance premiums will go up, but those premiums are going up, for the most part, because insurance plans are now required to cover care; those meager plans that don't really cover anything are a thing of the past under the ACA. More importantly, however, is the fact that only a tiny percentage of Americans will see their premiums increase; for many, many millions more, premiums will decrease and their policies will cover more, and for tens of millions of Americans the ACA will mean having access to affordable health care for the first time. A law doing what it is supposed to do, of course, is not big news and doesn't make huge headlines.

Guys, my blog here constantly updates you on our local taxes and the steady increase.Read More http://woodbury.patch.com/blogs/matt-behnings-blog It's FAR worse than these little graphs put it... it's a shell game... while your property taxes aren't going up much (unless you live in Woodbury and Stillwater that had the school levy's pass)... you're employer had their property taxes increased. The stores you shop at had their fees and taxes increased. Fees you pay are also increasing. Lol, we have to pay for these transit corridors somehow! But mostly they're kicking the can down the road and adding to our County Debt.
