Lake Elmo Man Dies in Motorcycle Crash; Funeral Services Set

Anthony John Carlson, 20, of Lake Elmo, died after losing control of his motorcycle Thursday evening near Minnemishinona Falls. Carlson was a 2010 graduate of Stillwater Area High School.

A 20-year-old Lake Elmo man died after losing control of his motorcycle Thursday evening near Minnemishinona Falls. Anthony John Carlson was traveling westbound on a curve of County Road 41 when he crossed over into the eastbound lane and struck a guardrail, the Associated Press reports. He was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital, where he later died. Carlson was a 2010 graduate of Stillwater Area High School. Visitation is set for 4-8 p.m. Monday, April 8, at Bradshaw Celebration of Life Center in Stillwater, and also one hour prior to the service at church. Click here to read the full obituary. Funeral Service for Devin Aryal on Feb. 18

Devin Joseph Aryal was a victim of a shooting that occurred in Oakdale on Feb. 11, 2013.

A funeral service will be held for Devin Joseph Aryal on Monday, Feb. 18. Aryal, 9, died in a shooting that occurred on Feb. 11. He is survived by his beloved parents, Melissa and Dibakar; sister, Savannah La Venture; brother, Dibyam; step-mother, Mamata Aryal; grandparents, Ram Prasad Aryal, Sabitri Aryal and Steven and Debra La Venture; uncles, Dinesh Aryal, Sunil Adhikari and Jarvis La Venture; aunts, Reema Aryal and Deepa Adhikari; cousins, Aashutosh Aryal and Sambrit Adhikari; great-grandma, Beverly Huesmann; godparents, Angela and Ty Koga; special friend, Pamela Reilly; dog, Niko; many more loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Woodbury Husband, Father Dies after Fight With ALS

Scott Andrew Stafne, age 40, faithful son, husband, father and friend, courageously died of ALS Thursday, February 7, 2013. Services for Scott are set for Friday.

Scott Andrew Stafne, Woodbury, died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013 after a more than eight-year battle with ALS, or "Lou Gehrig's disease." He was 40 years old.   Scott was born May 10, 1972 to Gerry and Judy Stafne of Cottage Grove. He graduated from Park High School in 1990 and the University of Minnesota in 1995 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. In 2002, he married his wife Kirsten, who loved and cared for him gracefully. Upon his diagnosis with ALS in 2004, Scott “retired” from an information technology career and devoted himself to his passion for writing and filmmaking. With the birth of daughters Eva Lorraine in 2005 and Miranda Roxanne in 2008, Scott found his purpose in life. Scott shared his friendly smile and sharp wit with …

Kristen, I found this because my husband is dying from ALS also. He was diagnosed 01/2010. He is 44 and we have 3 young kids. I watched the video. It's brilliant! I tried to get my husband to leave a similar legacy, but it was too painful for him. You had a Love Warrior as a husband! Woodbury Resident Glen Moon Dies Following Battle With Cancer

Glen Moon, longtime youth coach in Woodbury, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, surrounded by friends and family. Friends are going to recognize Moon during halftime of Friday night’s basketball game between East Ridge and Woodbury. The event calls for athletes he coached over the years to come down to the court at Woodbury High School and honor him. The game starts at 7:15 p.m. Friend John Griffin said Moon had an endearing personality and loved sports, his kids and his family. Moon and his pals could often been seen in the back row of stadiums or bleachers at various sporting events in Woodbury, said Griffin, who coached one of Moon’s sons. “Just a great guy,” Griffin said. “A great outlook on life. Dick Wolff, the founder of the Christian Cupboard Emergency Food Shelf, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013. He was 78. “He was just a servant,” said Tim Hayden, a member of the food shelf board who knew Wolff for about seven years. Hayden recalled a Bible passage about Jesus feeding people when they were hungry and giving them something to drink when they were thirsty. “That reminds me so much of Dick,” he said. Memorial service Sunday, Jan. 13, 4:30 p.m. at Woodbury Lutheran Church, 7380 Afton Road. Visitation begins at 3:30 p.m. Memorials preferred in lieu of flowers. Service Planned for Andrew Sommer at Woodbury High School

A service for Andrew Sommer, the Woodbury High School teacher who died earlier this month, will be held at the school at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, according to an obituary on legacy.com. Sommer passed away Dec. 19, 2012, after a battle with cancer. He was 54. The service at Woodbury High School will be held in the auditorium. “We are mourning the loss of our colleague and friend. He remains an outstanding member of the Woodbury High School faculty, touching the lives of countless students, staff and parents,” Principal Linda Plante said in a statement. “As a College in the Schools Spanish instructor, Andy brought rigor to the classroom, and laughter and joy to his students. Woodbury High School teacher Andrew (Andy) Sommer, who had been battling cancer, died Wednesday morning, Dec. 19, 2012. “We are mourning the loss of our colleague and friend. He remains an outstanding member of the Woodbury High School faculty, touching the lives of countless students, staff and parents,” Principal Linda Plante said in a statement. “As a College in the Schools Spanish instructor, Andy brought rigor to the classroom, and laughter and joy to his students. Fairness in Court: Judge Greg Galler

Is it really just a matter of winning or losing?

“That judge wasn’t fair.” My clients told me this as we walked out of a Ramsey County courtroom nearly 20 years ago. “What do you mean he wasn’t fair?” I asked. “He ruled against us,” they explained.   The case involved a fairly complicated legal issue and we were given nearly an hour for arguments.  Judge Roland Faricy was prepared and asked good questions. I had advised my clients ahead of time that the case could be decided either way.  My clients watched the entire hearing. In the end, although he ruled against us, the judge had been fair. Is it really just a matter of winning or losing? Most of the people who come to court understand that judges work hard to decide cases fairly based on the law and the evidence. Roger Ivan Fritsche, 91, of Woodbury, died on Nov. 7, 2012, at the Woodbury Healthcare Center, surrounded by his family.  Funeral services for Roger will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 10 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Afton. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to services as well as from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 9 all at the church.
