Memorial Day, celebrated during the last Monday of May, honors those who have died in service to the U.S. military.
The 2013 Memorial Day observance in Woodbury will begin at 11 a.m. Monday, May 27. The local event will be held at the Veterans Memorial on the grounds of City Hall. It’s hosted by the hosted by the Woodbury VFW Post 9024 and Woodbury Lions Veterans Memorial Council. Initially founded as Decoration Day in 1869, Memorial Day honors those who died while serving in the U.S. military. It was made an official holiday in 1971. Organizers are seeking business owners who wish to participate.
The 2013 Washington County Fair is set for July 31 through Aug. 4. Planners on Friday issued a release seeking “interested business owners to exhibit” at the event, which expects to draw more than 53,000 people over the five days. It’s feeling like that old saying about Minnesota having two seasons is true… The city of Woodbury on Monday sent out an updated schedule for this year’s roadwork projects, noting that drivers should expect delays, especially during rush hours. The Woodbury Drive (County Road 19) project is expected to begin April 22. Plans call for the road to be expanded from two lanes to four from Park Crossing south to Saint Ambrose. Roundabouts will be installed at Lake and Bailey roads. Washington County is the lead agency on this project, which has a webpage dedicated to it. Public Works crews are expected to begin street sweeping and hydrant flushing later this month.
Updated: 4:40 p.m., Wednesday, April 24 The city sent out an update Wednesday: Street sweeping is now tentatively scheduled to begin Monday, May 13, with hydrant flushing beginning once streets are swept. As always, this date is subject to change in the case of inclement weather. Original story Woodbury plans to begin spring maintence activities with street sweeping on April 22. Weather permitting, of course. The Public Works Department expects street sweeping to begin later this month. Once that’s complete, crews will begin hydrant flushing, according to a release from the city. Road-closure dates for major construction projects in Woodbury have been pushed back.
Update: 5:05 p.m., Friday, April 12 Washington County on Friday, April 12, sent out an update on dates for road closures, which have been pushed back. Beginning Monday, April 22, Woodbury Drive (County Road 19) will be closed from Park Crossing to south of Lake Road. Also, beginning on Wednesday, April 17, Radio Drive will be closed from Bailey Road to south of Hargis Parkway. The fourth annual Woodbury Community Expo was held Saturday, April 6, at the Bielenberg Sports Center. It was the last major event for the sports center before the city deflates the dome and begins construction on a new $21.8 million field house. Thousands of residents made their way through the booths and exhibits at the event, which the Woodbury Chamber of Commerce organizes.
