Woodbury Election Results: Kieffer Wins in House District 53B (Updated)

The incumbent Woodbury Republican is elected to a second term.

Republican Rep. Andrea Kieffer was re-elected Tuesday to the state House of Representatives, according to the unofficial results from the Secretary of State.  The incumbent secured 54.84 percent of the vote in the win, defeating DFL challenger Ann Marie Metzger. Kieffer had earned 12,060 votes to Metzger’s 9,909 (45.06 percent) in the House District 53B race. Election night was somewhat “bittersweet” for Kieffer—despite her own victory Minnesota Republicans lost control of the House and Senate. She said she would reach out to Senator-elect Susan Kent (District 53) and Representative-elect JoAnn Ward later today, and soon speak with fellow Republicans, as well. “I’m looking forward to moving forward,” Kieffer said. Kieffer and Metzger: Woodbury Candidate Forum for House District 53B

The League of Women Voters held forums for local candidates Tuesday night at City Hall.

Residents packed the Woodbury City Council chambers Tuesday night during a candidate forum for local Senate and House races. The League of Women Voters event, moderated by Grant resident Liz Nordling, touched on several topics, though job growth and bolstering the Minnesota economy were common themes throughout. The Republican- and DFL-endorsed candidates for Senate District 53 and House Districts 53A and 53B attended. Below are the responses from the House District 53B candidates. Woodbury DFLer Announces Run for State House

Ann Marie Metzger is seeking the DFL endorsement in new House District 53B.

Woodbury resident Ann Marie Metzger on Friday announced that she will seek the DFL endorsement for the state representative in the new House District 53B. Metzger filed in December of 2011 to run for the House seat in 56A, according to a press release, and has filed an amended filing for the new 53B House District, which is comprised of mostly the eastern half of Woodbury. “In the last 15 years, I have been able to participate in many community building efforts here and in the Twin Cities,” she said in a statement. “These opportunities have blessed me with many relationships that have allowed me to witness the values we share.” Metzger has 15 years of experience in banking and finance beginning at Chase Manhattan Bank in New York and …
