How to Get Involved in Woodbury Days

Informational meetings are planned for the city’s biggest civic celebration.

If the snow has you dreaming of warmer days ahead, a taste of summer is coming up. Woodbury Days planners announced Thursday three informational meetings for area businesses and organizations. Those interested the Woodbury Days business fair, parade, Taste of Woodbury or Button of Savings Program can attend meetings at Woodbury Estates Assisted Living (2825 Woodlane Drive, near Woodbury High School). The meetings are planned for: “Join us for a free meal and learn about all the different opportunities offered at Woodbury Days and how they can greatly benefit your company,” reads the release, which also notes that testimonials from vendors are available on the festival’s website. So you got a smart phone for Christmas. Like you, I held out. Not wanting to succumb to those pesky data plan fees. Then one day I was planning a lunch date with a friend. She whipped out her iPhone and quipped, “Aren’t you going to get out your pencil and paper?” We had a good laugh and I won’t waste time here defending the myriad of uses for pencil and paper. A ‘Behind the Scenes Tour’ of Woodbury

Applications will be accepted soon for the Woodbury Community Foundation’s Citizens’ Academy.

Started with the idea of getting residents more engaged with the city, the Woodbury Community Foundation’s annual Citizens’ Academy is set to return for the fourth year. “It’s a lot of fun,” said Alisa Rabin Bell, executive director of the Woodbury Community Foundation. “It’s a really interesting opportunity for a behind the scenes tour of Woodbury.” People can apply to be part of the free series starting Dec. 1. The series includes experts on various parts of the city, including business, media, public safety, public works and government, among others. Woodbury Seeks Applicants For Advisory Groups

Applications will be accepted through Oct. 21.

The city of Woodbury is seeking residents interested in openings for city advisory commissions. Applications for the volunteer positions will be accepted through Friday, Oct. 21. Most are three-year terms. "Citizens who are members of advisory groups assist the City Council by making recommendations regarding parks, development proposals, environmental issues, and much more,” Mayor Mary Giuliani Stephens said in a statement. “Their contribution to our community is an important one.” This year, there are 14 openings on the city’s advisory boards.
