DNA, Cell Records Lead to Charge in Woodbury Liquor Store Theft Case

Virgil Lee Kirkwood, 23, has been charged with burglary.

A Woodbury police investigation that included cell tower information and blood from the scene of a different crime has led to a burglary charge in the December 2011 safe theft from a Woodbury liquor store. Virgil Lee Kirkwood, 23, faces up to 10 years in prison and a $20,000 if convicted. Yet Another Burglary Charge for Paul Thomas Harrington

Woodbury police have arrested him three times in the past year.

For the third time in eight months, Paul Thomas Harrington has been arrested for burglary. This time, Harrington is suspected of breaking into a home at the 6200 block of Applewood Road in Woodbury and stealing three bottles of pills. The latest felony burglary charge carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine. Harrington, 19, already faces several charges: Woodbury police during the early-morning hours of May 26 were dispatched to the home, and found the backdoor wide open and damages to a window, according to the criminal complaint. The next day, officers spoke to a neighbor, who said he saw Harrington in the neighborhood the day of the burglary, according to the complaint. On June 7, police tracked down …

Woodbury Burglary Suspect Arrested… Again

Paul Thomas Harrington faces another burglary charge following his arrest Friday.

Six months after he was arrested following a string of burglaries and vehicle break-ins near his Woodbury home, Paul Thomas Harrington was arrested again on Friday, June 1. Police in December 2011 arrested Harrington after an investigation of 17 residential burglaries and 19 thefts from vehicles in the city. He lives at the 6200 block of Birchwood Road, about a half mile from the reported thefts. On Friday, Harrington—who was charged with two felonies stemming from the previous incidents—was arrested again on suspicion of burglary. This latest incident also occurred near his home, said Woodbury Police Cmdr. Jay Alberio. Chicago Man Sentenced for 2010 Heroin Sting in Woodbury

Darnell Watson, 45, and two others pleaded guilty to drug charges following their June 2010 arrest in Woodbury.

A Chicago man arrested in Woodbury in June 2010 was sentenced in federal court Monday after conspiring to distribute more than 100 grams of heroin in the Twin Cities. Darnell Watson, 45, pleaded guilty on Nov. 2, 2011, and was sentenced to three and a half years of prison time on Monday by U.S. District Court Judge Joan N. Ericksen, according to a release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Minnesota district. Watson and two other were arrested in Woodbury on June 28, 2010, with 149 grams of heroin in their possession. The arrests brought their two-year operation to an end, the release says. In their respective plea agreements, the defendants admitted conspiring to distribute heroin and transport the drug from Chicago to the Twin Cities. On …

Woodbury Police Chase Down Burglary Suspect

A juvenile male fled from the scene Tuesday night and will likely face several charges.

Woodbury police were able to track down and apprehend a 16-year-old boy who allegedly entered the garage of a home at the 1700 block of Sheffield Drive on Tuesday night. A woman who lives at the home called police at 11:27 p.m. Tuesday, March 20, after hearing noises downstairs, according to Det. Sgt. Brett Billmeyer of the Woodbury Police Department. Police suspect the boy was in the garage at the time, looking into vehicles, Billmeyer said. Nothing was found missing, but investigators are still following up with the victim. The boy fled the scene on foot but was captured not far from the Sheffield Drive home, Billmeyer said. Police found a small amount of marijuana in his possession. Update: Man Suspected Of Woodbury Break-ins Also Wanted in Chisago County

Brian Thomas McCarthy, 24, is facing felony charges in Washington County and gross misdemeanor charges in Chisago County.

Update (Dec. 29, 11:35 a.m.): A Chisago County warrant was issued for Brian Thomas McCarthy on Dec. 28 after the St. Paul man failed to appear in court on charges of gross misdemeanor fourth-degree assault of a peace officer and obstruction of the legal process.  McCarthy failed to appear in Chisago County because he was incarcerated in the Washington County Jail on felony charges of third-degree burglary and receiving stolen property in connection with a string of area burglaries.  McCarthy is suspected of breaking into a detached garage in Woodbury and vehicles in Woodbury, Oakdale, Maplewood, Newport and St. Paul, Woodbury police told Patch on Dec. 22.  McCarthy is scheduled for an omnibus hearing in Washington County on Jan. 25.  --- …

Woodbury Police Arrest Man Suspected In String Of Break-ins

The St. Paul man who was arrested Thursday morning is thought to be involved in several vehicle break-ins in the area.

Woodbury police Thursday morning arrested a 24-year-old St. Paul man who authorities believe is responsible for several recent vehicle break-ins in the area. The man has yet to be charged, said Cmdr. Jay Alberio of the Woodbury Police Department, but he is a suspect in vehicle and garage break-ins in Woodbury, Oakdale, Maplewood, Newport and St. Paul. Reports are expected to be forwarded to the Washington County Attorney’s Office Friday for possible charges of theft from motor vehicle, third-degree burglary and possession of stolen property, Alberio said Thursday. Updated: Arrest Made In Woodbury Mail Theft Case

St. Anthony police arrested a man believed to be involved in a string of mail thefts in Woodbury.

A man suspected in a string of mail thefts in Woodbury was arrested by St. Anthony, MN, officers Sunday night. Woodbury since late October has seen a string of mailbox-related incidents, everything from mail stolen outright to it being strewn about streets and found elsewhere. St. Anthony authorities say the man arrested is a 20-year-old from St. Paul. He was stopped for a traffic violation near Larpenteur and Snelling avenues in Falcon Heights. During the traffic stop, St. Anthony police found the man with mail from Woodbury, said Cmdr. Jay Alberio of the Woodbury Police Department. Mail theft is a huge problem all over the country - it's one of the easiest ways for thieves to steal your sensitive information for identity theft, and it's happening every day. Blotter: Police Find Meth on Man During Warrant Arrest

It was a little slower for the Woodbury Police Department over the Christmas holiday.

The following information was obtained from recent police reports. Police were called to the Red Roof Inn on Dec. 23 after a manager asked that a man be evicted. Officers discovered that he had a warrant out for his arrest and subsequently found methamphetamine in his possession. A woman called Woodbury police on Christmas Eve to report that plows had pushed too much snow into her driveway at the 6700 block of Sherwood Circle. She said her driveway had more snow than her neighbors'. Police told her they would relay her concerns to the city's Public Works Department. Police were called to the Express store at the 9100 block of Hudson Road on a shoplifting complaint on Dec. 24. Employees said three men took sweaters and hats and fled the …
