Saint Therese plans to build a campus adjacent to Bielenberg Gardens.
About a month and a half after plans for a new grocery store were announced for a new Woodbury development, a senior-housing group says it will break ground on a facility adjacent to the urban village this fall. Saint Therese plans to build a new campus near the urban village, called Bielenberg Gardens, located at the southwest corner of Radio Drive and Bailey Road in Woodbury, according to a Tuesday news release. “Saint Therese is delighted to be expanding in the east metro,” President & CEO Barbara Rode said in a statement. “Woodbury is a progressive city supported by innovative leaders seeking the best options for their aging population. We look forward to serving all Woodbury and east metro area seniors and their families as they …

Bielenberg Gardens, a mixed-use development, is planned at the southwest corner of Radio Drive and Bailey Road.
Plans for a future urban village at the southwest corner of Radio Drive and Bailey Road took a step forward Thursday as a group announced its plans for a grocery-anchored shopping center. United Properties, along with project partner Jerry’s Enterprises, Inc., says it will build a 90,000-square-foot retail center at the site. “We’re very excited to be bringing grocery-anchored retail to serve southern Woodbury,” Keith Ulstad, senior vice president of development at United Properties, said in a release. “Our goal is to create a shopping center that will meet residents’ day-to-day needs with amenities such as a grocery store, coffee shop, gas station and pharmacy.” The grocery will be a Jerry’s Enterprises store, "but the name is to be …

Washington County officials also detailed why the Radio Drive-Hargis Parkway intersection will have a signal instead of a roundabout.
As Woodbury prepares for a new mixed-use development at the southwest corner of Radio Drive and Bailey Road, the City Council on Wednesday approved plans for roadway expansion in the area. Radio Drive will be expanded from two lanes to four from Bailey Road to Hargis Parkway, and a third pedestrian underpass will be installed near the Radio-Bailey intersection. (County staff is busy with other projects, so Woodbury is acting as the lead agency for the roadwork.) Bielenberg Gardens, which calls for retail, commercial and residential growth across 200 acres at the site, “is really driving this project,” City Engineer Klayton Eckles said. The developer wants to move forward with the work, and Woodbury is hoping to begin construction next May …

The Washington County Board on Tuesday approved a cooperative agreement with Woodbury that will allow the road expansion to proceed earlier as the city plans for a new mixed-use development at the southwest corner of Radio Drive and Bailey Road.
With a new mixed-use development slated for the southwest corner of Radio Drive and Bailey Road, improvements to the county highway there will proceed at Woodbury’s pace. Coming roadwork plans call for Radio Drive to be expanded from two lanes to four, generally from Bailey Road south to Hargis Parkway. The Washington County Board on Tuesday approved a cooperative agreement with Woodbury that will allow the city to take the lead on the $2 million project, said County Engineer Wayne Sandberg. Woodbury wanted the improvements to occur sooner than the county’s timeframe, he said, and the agreement opens the door for the city to proceed with the project. Washington County will use state aid funds for the project and pay for two-thirds of the …

A tree trench is a new method of planting that helps trees grow and filter water better.
Woodbury officials hope the trees at a new development slated near the Bielenberg Sports Center grow tall and strong—and treat water more efficiently. The Woodbury City Council on Wednesday took a look at the latest master plan for Bielenberg Gardens, a large mixed-use development planned for the area south of Bailey Road between Radio Drive and Bailey Elementary. Part of the plans outlined by Woodbury Associate Planner Eric Searles include “tree trenches,” a new system that will be used for the first time in Woodbury at the 160-acre site. Tree trenches are fairly new to urban planning in general, he said. Soil borings at the site have shown that it’s a somewhat sandy area, Community Development Director Dwight Picha said. “We believe (the…

Council members on Wednesday will briefly discuss the master plan for Bielenberg Gardens, a mixed-use development planned southwest corner of Bailey Road and Radio Drive.
The Woodbury City Council has a fairly small agenda planned for Wednesday night, but it does include discussion of one very large project. The city is mulling plans for Bielenberg Gardens, a mixed-use “urban village” development at the southwest corner of Bailey Road and Radio Drive. Plans call for a retail center and medium- to high-density housing. Features of the proposed development include a green-space network, senior housing, water amenities, office space, a pharmacy, and locations for a fast-food establishment and grocer. The council is expected to briefly discuss the master plan document and zoning for the site. The city has received Metropolitan Council funding for a crossing from the urban village to the Bielenberg Sports Center…
