Woodbury Author Brian Freeman’s Book Up for Award

“Spilled Blood” is one of five finalists for Best Hardcover Novel in the International Thriller Writers’ 2013 Thriller Awards.

For the second time in three years, a book from Woodbury author Brian Freeman is up for an award from the International Thriller Writers. Freeman’s seventh novel, Spilled Blood, has been named one of five finalists for Best Hardcover Novel in the International Thriller Writers’ 2013 Thriller Awards.  “Very cool,” Freeman told Patch. In 2011, his book The Burying Place was also named a finalist for the award. Author Brian Freeman on New Novel: ‘Possibly My Favorite Book’

The Woodbury author’s latest novel, “Spilled Blood,” is set to be released May 1.

Woodbury author Brian Freeman’s next novel will hit shelves and online bookstores May 1. In a Patch interview last week, it was clear he’s pleased with his latest endeavor, Spilled Blood. “I’m really, really proud of this book,” Freeman said. “It’s possibly my favorite book.” Like his previous efforts, Spilled Blood focuses on psychological suspense. “This is the pinnacle of what I’ve been trying to do in that genre,” Freeman said. The book is set in rural southwestern Minnesota, where two towns are feuding over a chemical manufacturer. Against that backdrop comes a game of Russian roulette that leaves one girl dead, another who runs away, and a third in jail on murder charges. Woodbury Author Up For International Book Award

Brian Freeman is in the running for the best novel of 2010 in the International Thriller Writer Awards.

Woodbury author Brian Freeman this July will head to New York City, where he will find out if another award is going on his mantle. Freeman is up for Best Novel of 2010 in the International Thriller Writer Awards for his book The Burying Place, which came out in paperback in March. “I’ll be putting on my tux and crossing my fingers,” he said. Other authors nominated for the award include Mo Hayder, Michael Connelly, Jeffery Deaver, and Minnesota’s John Sandford. “It’s the kind of thing where you always hope you win, but frankly it’s tremendous to be in that kind of company,” Freeman said. “I’ll be walking on air for a week.” Freeman has previously notched other honors—including the Macavity Award for his first novel—and was also nominated …

Catching Up With Woodbury Author Brian Freeman

The thriller writer, who has lived here for more than 25 years, talks about the creative process, the publishing industry and his upcoming book, “The Bone House.”

Woodbury author Brian Freeman, whose latest book, “The Bone House,” will hit stores on March 29, recently sat down with Woodbury Patch for a wide-ranging interview about his novels, the writing process and the book business in general. A Chicago native who moved to California at age 10, Freeman, 47, will also have “The Burying Place” offered in paperback starting March 1. He has lived in Woodbury, where his wife’s family is from, for more than 25 years. Freeman, who graduated from Carleton College in Northfield, Minn., with a degree in English, said an eighth-grade teacher encouraged him to become an author. “I’ve had the novel bug pretty much my whole life,” said Freeman, known for his psychological thrillers, many of which are set in the…
