The victim gave chase, a witness told Patch.

Woodbury police on Tuesday were able to return a man’s stolen laptop after thieves snatched it from the desk where he was working at Central Park. The theft happened at about 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, according to police spokeswoman Michelle Okada. Three men came up to the victim, who was working at a table near the east entrance of Central Park. “Right in broad daylight they grabbed the laptop and ran out the door,” Okada said. A witness told Patch that the victim chased the thieves. About two hours after the theft, an officer conducted a traffic stop on a speeding vehicle, which matched the description of the car in which the alleged perpetrators fled, Okada said. Weddings, Meetings, Song and Dance: Woodbury’s Central Park

There’s always something happening at the facility, celebrating its 10-year anniversary this year.

As those involved with its genesis say, the Central Park facility was meant to be a gathering place for Woodbury. And that vision is reflected in its usage. “Central Park is a tremendous success story,” Bob Klatt, parks and recreation director, said in the October city newsletter. “We worked with multiple agencies—Washington County, the YMCA, School District 833 Early Childhood Family Education and the Stonecrest senior housing facility—to ensure the building would attract a large cross-section of the community. We are ecstatic to see so many people visit each day.”        Related: A Sense of Place: 10 Years for Woodbury's Central Park        Related: Central Park/Woodbury Library 10-Year Anniversary Events From youngsters and seniors …

A Sense of Place: 10 Years for Woodbury’s Central Park

The facility will soon mark its 10-year anniversary. Share your photos of Central Park here.

A decade ago, a group of residents wanted to create a community gathering place in Woodbury. Today, the Central Park facility functions as the hub of the city. It was a unique concept 10 years ago, said Cheryl Hurst, a Woodbury City Council member at the time who championed efforts to get it built. “They knew that we didn’t have a downtown, per se,” said Hurst, who now lives in Florida. “So it was trying to meet the needs of the community—to have a sense of place in the heart of Woodbury.” On Saturday, Nov. 17, the city will mark the 10-year anniversary of Central Park. Washington County will also celebrate the anniversary of the R.H. Stafford Branch Library, named in honor of late County Commissioner Dick Stafford.        Related: Central…

Woodbury Kids! Name the Lookout Ridge Owl

As the 10th anniversary of the Central Park facility comes up, staff has a new logo for the play area, and wants Woodbury children to name that owl.

Who, who, who can name that owl? More than 30,000 children come through Woodbury’s Lookout Ridge every year, and city staff is asking them to name the owl that’s part of the new logo. “We want to find out what the kids can come up with,” said Blaine Beck, facilities coordinator at Central Park. “And we’re excited to see what they suggest. I’m sure we’ll have some interesting ones.” Children can submit their nominations at Lookout Ridge, located downstairs at Central Park, or visit the city’s website. The new logo was created by staffer Betty Witte as part of the 10-year anniversary for the Central Park facility, Beck said. “I love it,” he said of the logo. “We’re very proud of it and we’ve gotten a lot of good feedback. The kids like it, …
