Woodbury’s CityWalk Businesses Open During Construction

Sidewalks are torn up but the doors are open.

While work on a building at Woodbury’s CityWalk development progresses, the businesses there are open. “It’s just a nuisance,” said Melissa Fink, co-owner of Wild Child Hair. The sidewalks are torn up as crews fix footings and siding is being replaced on the building at the 10000 block of City Walk Drive. Fink said she feels people driving by assume her hair salon, Quiznos, H&R Block and Waxing the City are closed. Walk-ins have slowed since the work began, she said. Association members at CityWalk last spring filed a lawsuit against developers alleging shoddy workmanship, the Woodbury Bulletin reported. Fink said there have been issues with water seepage at the building. The work is expected to be complete by mid May or mid June, Fink …

I'm amazed every time I drive through City Walk at how poor the construction is. Many of the buildings have bricks missing and general pieces of the exterior falling off.   more ›

Woodbury Police Believe Other Break-ins Tied to City Walk Incidents

There were break-ins at businesses along Commerce Drive, along with City Walk, last week.

Woodbury police are investigating break-ins at the buildings along the 700 block of Commerce Drive that were likely linked to last week’s burglaries at CityWalk. The Jan. 9 incidents happened around the same time of night and similar methods were used to gain access to the businesses, according to police spokeswoman Michelle Okada. “It’s not coincidental,” she said. One Commerce Drive business owner said he was told offices were broken into and it appeared the perpetrators were looking for cash.         Related: Three Businesses Burglarized at City Walk in Woodbury Police were able to gather evidence at the businesses and are continuing to investigate, Okada said.   Like Patch on Facebook | Follow us on Twitter | Sign up for our free …

Three Businesses Burglarized at City Walk in Woodbury

The break-ins occurred during the overnight hours of Tuesday and Wednesday.

Burglars broke into three Woodbury businesses during the overnight hours of Tuesday and Wednesday and stole money from the registers, the owners told Patch. Just Dogs! Gourmet, Nourish and M Studio Flower Affair were among the burglarized businesses, all of which are at the CityWalk development off Woodbury Drive. “It’s very frustrating,” said Lauren Knott, co-owner of Nourish. “This is a nice area. You don’t expect that.” Michelle Latulippe, owner of Just Dogs! Gourmet, said the thieves broke her register even though the keys were in it. “They just took the money and ran,” she said. “The good thing is nobody got hurt.” The business owners said nothing else was missing aside from the money in the tills, though Latulippe said some “rancid …

Twice the Freshness: Woodbury Farmers Market

Two locations in Woodbury deliver double opportunities for farmers market fans; one opens this Sunday.

Nothing says “summer” like the unique colors, fragrant aromas and mouth-watering flavors of garden-fresh fruits, vegetables and other locally grown produce. The St. Paul Farmers Market in Woodbury is known for delivering all of those favorites, and—in just a few days—the popular summertime tradition returns. The outdoor market will once again take place at two Woodbury locations: Central Park/YMCA on Sundays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., June 19 to Oct. 30; and at City Walk (off Woodbury Drive) on Wednesdays from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., June 29 to Oct. 12. “We felt the city could use a weekday market, because some said they couldn’t get out on Sundays,” said Jack Gerten, St. Paul Farmers Market manager. “We’ve been open for three years at City …

What’s Valentine’s Day Like for a Woodbury Florist?

Woodbury Patch recently sat down with the owner of a local flower shop to see what’s happening as the holiday approaches.

With Valentine’s Day coming up, Woodbury Patch asked Meghan Kelliher, who owns M Studio Flower Affair at City Walk in Woodbury, about the flower business during the holiday. Woodbury Patch: Is this the busiest time of year for florists? Meghan Kelliher: This time of year and Mother’s Day. They’re kind of neck and neck. But everybody has a mother. Patch: What do people usually buy? Kelliher: Red roses. It’s kind of comical because you can have a big thing of flowers of all different colors, and if you have one red flower in there, that will go first. I don’t want to be mean but guys don’t get too creative. Patch: Who is your typical customer around Valentine’s Day? Kelliher: It’s mostly men, all the way from 17 to 85, but mostly the middle …

Construction Crews Complain of Harassment from Carpenter’s Union

A union member was following around workers with a video camera, which also caused concerns for a nearby school.

Woodbury police have been called to a construction site at City Walk after workers there complained that a carpenter’s union has been harassing them. Crews called police after a union member was video taping them, getting within six inches of their face at times, and following them on errands, according to a police report. The man doing the videos also caught the attention of officials at the nearby Primrose School of Woodbury, who also called police. No arrests have been made and it is legal to take video from public property, though City Walk is technically private property, said Cmdr. Steve Wills with the Woodbury Police Department. The City Walk association is looking into the matter, he said. The man producing the video has been …

That was my understanding, but nobody from the union called me back, so I'm unclear on what their issue was.   more ›
