Just because it's cold outside, it's no reason not to be stylish.
The time has arrived. We must begin planning our winter weather wardrobe. If you’re a freeze-baby like me, you’ll want to take advantage of what I’ve learned about staying warm during Woodbury winters. We’re not talking Man Vs. Wild or any real survival skills here. Just some reasonable ideas to ensure you’ll shiver a bit less this season. You’re welcome. Not just for mountaineering and winter camping. I wear a long-sleeved base layer almost every day from November to March. I’ve tried most varieties. Silk is the softest and thinnest and therefore adds the least amount of bulk under clothes. But I disagree with conventional wisdom that silk is the warmest. I’ve found engineered materials like Cuddl Dudds to be warmest. I prefer the …

New “sarcastic” signage at the gym targets common gym practices of power lifters, they say.
The writing, apparently, is on the wall. Since Xperience Fitness took over the Woodbury Gold’s Gym, power lifters say new (or newly enforced) rules are singling them out. New “sarcastic” signs have been put up, warning members about grunting, using chalk and wearing torn clothing, said Val Huerta, of Woodbury, who has been a member there since Gold’s Gym opened. He says the signs target power lifters such as himself. One sign, according to Huerta’s son Chago, says: “We want our members ripped, not their clothing.” “It was really disrespectful,” said Huerta, who has since quit the gym. “Basically, you’re not wanted there.” He and Fenn Cournoyer, also a power lifter, said a friend was told not to wear sleeveless shirts and the signage seems …

Angel2Diva Woodbury opened Nov. 11 in the former Kissing 2 Lips flower shop on City Centre Drive.
Looking for something sparkly this season? Check out Angel2Diva Woodbury, a new clothing boutique that opened last month. “We’re known as ‘bling’ clothing,” said Patti Danner, who owns the store with her friend Kim Ballard. Danner and Ballard used to set up booths at fairs, rodeos and outdoor events, and they would often get requests to open a retail store. When a real estate agent showed them the space in the former Kissing 2 Lips Floral at 8320 City Centre Drive, they jumped at the chance. “It was perfect,” said Danner, who lives in Woodbury. “Plus the flower shop had the ‘two’ in it. That’s a sign, we need to come in here.” The store’s top product is L.A. Idol Jeans, Danner said, though there is a wide selection of other clothing and …

I haven't purchased new clothes since July—not getting preachy, just creative.
I once read about a woman who didn't buy new clothes for an entire year. I marveled at this, wondered how it was possible. Then I stopped to think about how often I purchased new clothing for myself. I couldn't answer my own question. If ever I felt a need to replenish or update my wardrobe, I did. If I saw a bargain at a "buy anything and everything" retailer, I'd slip it in the cart alongside my laundry soap and cold medicine. Later, a conversation with a friend focused on the latest trend in jeans—narrower legs, darker wash, etc. She was deciding which of the newest styles to try. I did a mental count of the jeans in my closet. Five. That may sound like a little or a lot, depending on your perspective. But it's one for every weekday. …
