Updated: Cougar in Woodbury?

One resident thought so, and took a picture of a paw print she found in a wooded area behind her home.

Updated: 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15 Patch contacted Dan Stark, wolf specialist with the DNR, about the print. Here's what he said: This is clearly a canine track. Probably a large dog. The nails are very obvious and are relatively blunt compared to the razor sharp claws of a cougar. Cougars usually do not leave claw marks because they walk with claws retracted like a domestic cat. Also the track is very symmetrical (i.e. the inner and outer toes match up). On a cougar track the inner middle toe leads slightly and then they arch to the outside. Cross-Dresser Out of Washer Fluid, Drive-by BB, Cougar Sighting: Woodbury Police Blotter

Selected calls to the Woodbury Public Safety Department from Dec. 25 through Jan. 1.

The following information was obtained from recent police reports. A resident at the 9300 block of Wedgewood Drive reported seeing a wolf near the fourth hole of the nearby golf course. An officer responded but did not find the animal, and assumed it was a coyote because it was spotted during coyote mating season. A suspicious person reported at Spire Federal Credit Union was found to be a security guard. A resident who lives on Powers Lake Point reported that someone had tried to break into his garage while he was out of town. There were pry marks on the door and an eight-inch crack on the doorframe. A resident at the 1500 block of Manning Avenue South reported that snowmobilers have been using his private driveway to access the road. A …

Updated: Cougar Spotted in Woodbury?

Resident calls Woodbury police after seeing what was thought to be a cougar near the Interstate 94 frontage road.

A cougar in Woodbury? One resident thought so. So did the officer who responded to the call. Woodbury police received an anonymous call on Jan. 11 about a cougar sighting near the Woodbury Lakes shopping area. The animal was spotted near the south side of the Interstate 94 frontage road. Justin Gunderson, a community service officer with the Woodbury Police Department, said he got the call about a cougar sighting at about 9 p.m. "From what I saw it actually appeared to be confirmed," he said. Gunderson said the animal was 65-80 yards away when he saw it. "It moved more like a feline than a K-9," he said. There have been several coyote sightings in Woodbury of late, Gunderson said, and he assumed that's what the caller spotted. "I actually …
