Lake Elmo Man Dies in Motorcycle Crash; Funeral Services Set

Anthony John Carlson, 20, of Lake Elmo, died after losing control of his motorcycle Thursday evening near Minnemishinona Falls. Carlson was a 2010 graduate of Stillwater Area High School.

A 20-year-old Lake Elmo man died after losing control of his motorcycle Thursday evening near Minnemishinona Falls. Anthony John Carlson was traveling westbound on a curve of County Road 41 when he crossed over into the eastbound lane and struck a guardrail, the Associated Press reports. He was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital, where he later died. Carlson was a 2010 graduate of Stillwater Area High School. Visitation is set for 4-8 p.m. Monday, April 8, at Bradshaw Celebration of Life Center in Stillwater, and also one hour prior to the service at church. Click here to read the full obituary. Remembering Our Iraq War Casualties: Spec. Drevnick & Capt. Hinz

The Iraq War claimed the lives of nearly 70 Minnesotans, among them were Woodbury men Army Spec. Daniel P. Drevnick, 22, and Marine Capt. Kelly C. Hinz, 30.

This week is the 10-year anniversary of the beginning of the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq that eventually led to the capture, trial and execution of Iraqi President Saddam Hussein.  Lost in the war were two local men. Army Spec. Daniel Paul Drevnick, 22, of Woodbury was one of three soldiers killed when insurgents fired mortar rounds at Contingency Operating Base Basra, about 20 miles outside Basra, Iraq, on July 16, 2009. Kelly Curtis Hinz, 30, of Woodbury, was one of two Marine pilots killed when their F/A-18C Hornet fighter jets accidentally collided in midair over Iraq on May 2, 2005. Updated: Officials Identify Victim of Townhouse Fire in Oakdale

A longtime Stillwater teacher was found dead in bed at the scene of a townhouse fire in Oakdale early Tuesday morning. Authorities are investigating.

A longtime Stillwater Area School District teacher was found dead at a townhouse fire in the 7000 block of 19th Street in Oakdale early Tuesday morning. The woman who died, Catherine A. Weschcke, 65, was a teacher at Rutherford Elementary School in Stillwater, according to a notice from District 834. Some of the schools she worked at include Andersen, Stonebridge, Lake Elmo, and most recently, Rutherford. “The Rutherford community has a very heavy heart today after learning of the tragic death of former teacher, Catherine Weschcke,” Rutherford Principal Heather Nelson said in a statement. “Catherine worked hard to help support students in their desire to grow and learn. Roger Ivan Fritsche, 91, of Woodbury, died on Nov. 7, 2012, at the Woodbury Healthcare Center, surrounded by his family.

Roger Ivan Fritsche, 91, of Woodbury, died on Nov. 7, 2012, at the Woodbury Healthcare Center, surrounded by his family.  Funeral services for Roger will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 10 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Afton. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to services as well as from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 9 all at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred. Services are in the care of the O’Connell Family Funeral Home in Hudson chapel.   READ THE FULL OBITUARY

Lake Elmo Motorcyclist's Death Prompts Warning to Share the Road

A 28-year-old Lake Elmo man died after his motorcyle left the road and hit a tree Tuesday. The crash has authorities warning riders and vehicle operators to safely share the road during this spring spell of summer-like weather.

A 28-year-old Lake Elmo man died Tuesday after his motorcyle left the road and hit a tree. Nathan Helmer, of Lake Elmo, was killed after his motorcycle left the road and struck a tree in Lake Elmo, according to the Minnesota Department of Public Safety. The incident, Minnesota's first fatal motorcycle crash of the year, has authorities warning riders and vehicle operators to safely share the road during this spell of summer-like weather. As record-high warm weather will continue at least into next week across the state—and as rising fuel costs make motorcycles more popular and affordable—traffic safety officials offer specific "life-saving" advice: “Most motorcycle crash fatalities result from rider error,” says Bill Shaffer of the …

One Dead, Two Injured After Sunday Crash In West Lakeland

All those involved were from Bayport; authorities say William Klatt, 72, died in the crash.

One man died and two others were injured following a Sunday crash in West Lakeland Township, according to a release from the Washington County Sheriff's Office. William Klatt, 72, of Bayport, died in the two-car crash, which occurred at Stagecoach Trail and Hudson Road. He was driving at the time, according to the release. Patricia Klatt, 67, also of Bayport, was transported to Regions Hospital; her condition is unknown. Dagne Christenson, 88, the driver of the other car, was transported to Regions as well. The Bayport resident's condition is unknown, the release says. A call to the Washington County Sheriff's Office was not immediately returned.

Woodbury Woman Dies in Crash

Jessica L. Harapan, 22, was broadsided by a truck Monday and later died at a Sherburne County hospital.

A Woodbury woman died in a car crash in Sherburne County on Monday, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. Jessica L. Harapan, 22, died after her vehicle was broadsided by a Hino truck at Highway 10 and Highway 301 near St. Cloud. She was transported to an area hospital but died from her injuries in the crash, which happened at about 9:50 a.m. on Monday. Harapan was traveling alone in a 1998 For Taurus. The driver of the truck and its passenger, both men from Rockford, Minn., were unharmed. Harapan was wearing her seatbelt and an airbag on her car deployed. Road conditions were dry and alcohol is not believed to be a factor. The Woodbury Bulletin reported that Harapan was a 2007 graduate of Woodbury High School and planned to graduate …
