The League of Women Voters last week held a forum for Woodbury City Council candidates; three of the five attended.
Three of the five Woodbury City Council candidates were on hand at City Hall last week for a League of Women Voters-sponsored candidate forum. Incumbents Amy Scoggins and Paul Rebholz were joined by challenger Joe Grinols. Mark Doree was unavailable for the forum and Mike Thissen declined to participate, officials said at the outset. Grinols Grinols, a political science major and current college student, said he’s primarily running to improve opportunities for free speech in public places in the city. Overall, he said he’s pleased with how the city is run. “Woodbury is in good hands,” Grinols said. The League of Women Voters held forums for local candidates Tuesday night at City Hall.
Residents packed the Woodbury City Council chambers Tuesday night during a candidate forum for local Senate and House races. The League of Women Voters event, moderated by Grant resident Liz Nordling, touched on several topics, though job growth and bolstering the Minnesota economy were common themes throughout. Minnesota for Marriage event planned at New Life Church.
Residents on Thursday will have a chance to discuss the upcoming ballot initiative that would define marriage in Minnesota as the union of one man and one woman in the state constitution. New Life Church of Woodbury is hosting a Minnesota for Marriage event at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 11. Mark LaFollette, lead pastor at New Life, said the church supports the constitutional amendment. “We affirm that message based on what the Bible says,” he said, pointing to the second chapter of Genesis. Thursday’s event is titled “Same-Sex Marriage Threatens Religious Liberty,” and will feature Pastor Brad Brandon, according to a release from the group.
