Washington County Library Now Offers eBooks from All 5 Major Publishers

Hachette titles are being added to the Washington County Library’s digital collection.

Want to check out ebooks from David Baldacci, Anita Shreve, Michael Connelly, Stephenie Meyer and James Patterson? Now you can. Digital books under the Hachette publishing house were previously unavailable through Washington County Library, said Chad Lubbers, manager of the R.H. Stafford Branch in Woodbury. “That’s been a big gap for us over the past couple of years,” he said. But Hachette has started working with libraries, and local branches now carry digital titles from all five major book publishers, Lubbers said. But I’ve encouraged my mother to buy a Nook as her first e-reader—because Barnes and Noble offers in-store booksellers to help reluctant technology adopters, like my mom, get started. Another advantage of a Nook is that it supports the EPUB format used by Washington County Library. I’m disappointed that I can’t borrow library eBooks on my Kindle. A …

I live in a dual Nook (Nook1st Edition and Nook Color) household and download e-content from my region's public library network on a weekly basis. I chose B& N Nook for the OverDrive loan feature. The Buffalo & Erie County Library system permits 7 or 14 day loan periods and you can borrow up to 20 titles at one time. I imagine there are some patrons who borrow the maximum. I think the generous …   more ›
