Woodbury Skate Park Celebration Planned for this Weekend

A daylong series of skating events is scheduled at the facility at Ojibway Park in Woodbury.

Woodbury installed new equipment at the skate plaza at Ojibway Park last October. So far this spring, it’s been popular. “It’s been packed every day there hasn’t been snow on it,” said Reed Smidt, Woodbury recreation specialist. A celebration of the skate park is set for Saturday, May 18. The event begins at 10 a.m. and will run into the evening, Smidt said. The day kicks off with the opener for the 3rd Lair Summer Series Competition. “It’s the Little League of skateboarding,” Smidt said. The series is held at several locations across the Twin Cities each summer, and Woodbury is hosting the first event this year, Smidt said. Snapshot: Tent Goes Up for Woodbury Acapulco’s Cinco de Mayo Festivities

The Mexican holiday celebrates the Battle of Puebla, which took place on May 5, 1862.

Crews on Friday were setting up a tent in the parking lot in front of Acapulco in Woodbury. The tent was being erected as part of the restaurant’s Cinco de Mayo festivities, which include food and drink specials. Cinco de Mayo (May 5) celebrates the 1862 Battle of Puebla, in which a Mexican force of 4,500 men led by Gen. Ignacio Zaragoza faced 6,000 well-trained French soldiers. (Mexican Independence Day is Sept. 16.) In recognition of Cinco de Mayo, the U.S. Census Bureau provided the following statistics about Mexico. 33.6 million The number of U.S. residents of Mexican origin. 25.7 Median age of people in the United States of Mexican origin in 2011. Last Blast for the Dome: Photos from the 2013 Woodbury Community Expo

The event was held Saturday, April 6, at the Bielenberg Sports Center in Woodbury.

The fourth annual Woodbury Community Expo was held Saturday, April 6, at the Bielenberg Sports Center. It was the last major event for the sports center before the city deflates the dome and begins construction on a new $21.8 million field house. Woodbury Community Expo: The Basics

The Woodbury Chamber of Commerce event will be held at the Bielenberg Sports Center.

What’s happening at the Woodbury Community Expo this year? Drawings for tablets, tours of the WCCO Mobile Weather Watcher Truck and food from area restaurants, for starters. The Woodbury Community Expo, the largest such event in the east metro, is set for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 6, at the Bielenberg Sports Center. People will be able to peruse more than 160 booths from local businesses and organizations, sample food from vendors and enjoy entertainment and kid-friendly activities during the event, which the Woodbury Chamber of Commerce organizes. Two Egg Hunts Coming Up in Woodbury

The events will be held regardless of the weather.

Waking up to more snow Monday might not have folks thinking spring, but it won’t stop the Woodbury Parks and Recreation Department from holding two egg hunts on Friday. Both events will take place “rain, shine, snow, hail or sleet,” according to Elizabeth Owens, recreation technician. Participants should dress for the weather. The Easter Bunny will be on hand for this free egg hunt, set for 6:30 p.m. Friday, March 22 at Carver Lake Park. People are asked to being their own baskets for the traditional, candy-free egg hunt. Each age group of children will hunt for different colored eggs hidden throughout the park. Eggs will be filled with small trinkets: stickers, temporary tattoos, bouncy balls, rings and more.
