Woodbury School Breaks Ground on New Gym/Classroom Facility

The Math and Science Academy expects the new building to be complete by next August.

The Math and Science Academy on Friday held a ceremonial groundbreaking for a new $5 million gym/classroom facility. “We’ve got way too many students in that building,” Director Bob Kreischer said, pointing to the main complex for the charter school, which was founded about 13 years ago. The Woodbury school has a waiting list, Kreischer said, and the new structure will allow for smaller classrooms, performance space and physical education classes. Currently, students head over to the YMCA for 90 minutes each week. “To, me, that’s not having phy ed,” he said, adding that a gym teacher will likely be hired. The 30,400-square-foot facility, which will house 10 classrooms, is expected to be complete by next August, Kreischer said. Once built, …

Healthy Body Beginning

As you look forward to 2011, what are you doing for that resolution so many of us have, but so few can stick to?

The New Year rings in with TV commercials depicting fit people in health club promotions and resolutions to shed the signs of over-indulgence. We pressed though December powered by bon-bons and butter with promises to get back into shape next year. Well, next year is here. What are we going to do about it? I'm going to start by throwing out any leftover pie, candy or cookies taunting me from the kitchen countertop. Then I'm going to make a grocery list including ingredients for healthier meals. And I'm going to commit to a few treadmill miles everyday. There are several good fitness center options in Woodbury. I used to belong to one. But when our first child was newborn, I decided to work out daily at 4 a.m. I figured, I'm up anyway, …
