The Woodbury Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday held a ribbon cutting for the new business.
The two most popular services at Waxing the City? “Brows and Brazilians,” manager Lisa O’Brien said during a daylong event Tuesday at the new business. It’s the first Waxing the City location to open in Minnesota; the company has salons in Colorado and Texas. Waxing the City has been well received in the community since it opened Dec. 17, O’Brien said, and other businesses at CityWalk “have taken us under their wing.” The Woodbury Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Tuesday, Jan. 8, and grand-opening events continue Jan. 10-12. Mayor Mary Giuliani Stephens welcomed Waxing the City to Woodbury, telling the assembled group: “I love their tagline: Get your smooth on.” A one-way sign is also part of its logo. “We do one thing …

Washington County libraries were closed on Sundays and Mondays during 2012.
Customers just wanted to say thank you or shake someone’s hand. That was the reaction from patrons at the R.H. Stafford Library following the news that Washington County would restore Sunday and Monday service at the library starting this year, said Chad Lubbers, manager of the Woodbury branch. The new hours go into effect this weekend. “Now, we’re back to where we should have been,” Lubbers said. “It feels like coming home after a long journey.” The Woodbury library will be open seven days a week until June, when it will close on Sundays through the end of August as part of a pilot program. Library officials will examine how that works and determine their options for hours in the future. One interesting note about the reduced hours in …

The R.H. Stafford Branch in Woodbury would still be closed on Sundays during summer months.
It might be a day to loosen the guidelines on being quiet at the library. Washington County plans to restore Sunday and Monday hours at the R.H. Stafford Library in Woodbury starting in 2013. Under a pilot program, the Woodbury library would be open from 1-5 p.m. on Sundays, except for summer months between Memorial Day and Labor Day. The concern was: “Is everybody going to swamp Stafford?” said Washington County Library Director Pat Conley. “We want to make sure we have good customer service—that’s why it’s a pilot (program),” she said. Last year, as part of a cost-saving measure, the county opted to eliminate Sunday and Monday service at all branches. Plans call for the R.H. Stafford, Cottage Grove, Oakdale, Wildwood and Hardwood Creek …

As part of a cost-cutting measure, all county libraries will likely have their hours shortened starting in 2012.
With the county’s budget shrinking, area libraries will likely close on Sundays and Mondays starting in 2012, said Library Director Pat Conley. The cut is part of a budget plan that was presented to the Washington County Board Tuesday, Aug. 16. The equivalent of 5.5 full-time staff positions would be eliminated, according to Conley’s presentation. Commissioner Dennis Hegberg said he was concerned about eliminating Sunday hours because students will not have access to the library to work on homework. Commissioner Lisa Weik, who represents a portion of Woodbury, proposed having the library system work with schools to keep their libraries open longer to give students access to resources. Weik also asked staff to look into adding Hmong …

There are several options under consideration, including closing the Woodbury library on Sundays and Mondays.
Pat Conley was clear: hours will be cut next year at Washington County libraries. “It is unfortunate,” she said. Exactly how those hours will be cut—and where—is still to be decided, said Conley, director of the Washington County library system. The Washington County Board on Tuesday saw eight options for trimming hours at the nine libraries. (The Stillwater and Bayport libraries primarily operate independently of the county system.) The move is necessary because of a shrinking budget and staff that is stretched thin at the current levels, according to a county memo. Among the eight metro area library systems, Washington County’s ranks fifth among number of open hours and sixth in number of employees. Taken together, county libraries are …
