Woodbury Woman Must Pay $18,000 in Restitution in Federal Fraud Case

Victoria Ayoola, 53, was sentenced Friday in U.S. District Court.

A Woodbury woman was sentenced Friday for using an alternative identity to obtain more than $18,000 in low-income housing tax credits. Victoria Ayoola, 53, was sentenced to two years of probation on a count of Social Security fraud and one count of making false statements, according to a release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Ayoola was also ordered to pay $18,114 in restitution. She was indicted on July 10, 2012, and pleaded guilty on Aug. 23, 2012. U.S. District Court Judge Joan N. Ericksen handed down the sentence. “This type of fraud poses serious security vulnerability, one that often contributes to a host of other crimes —including identity theft and financial fraud. Woodbury’s Cree Park Will Grow With Federal Funds

The city will use $600,000 in federal previously slated for a housing project

The city of Woodbury on Wednesday closed the deal to purchase a piece of land that will expand Cree Park using $600,000 of federal funds. The money, from the U.S. Housing and Urban Development (HUD), was originally slated for a housing development at City Walk. That project was delayed because of funding issues and opened the door for Woodbury to use the one-time funds for the park expansion. A Woodbury family owned the 8.8-acre parcel, and the city had been targeting the narrow park in the western part of the city for expansion for some time, according to Karl Batalden, Woodbury housing specialist. “Adding to park space in the developed area of the city is a unique opportunity,” he said.
