With temperatures in the mid-90s expected to continue this week, Patch asked Woodbury firefighters how they beat the heat.

For the Woodbury Fire Department, staying ahead of the heat takes tactics, preparation and a whole lot of water. “Stay hydrated before you get into your gear, because you’re not going to be able to catch up in this heat,” firefighter Russ Hawkinson said Monday. It’s important for a firefighter to “know your body,” he said, and not push too hard. “Because the heat’s going to win," Hawkinson said. During hot summer days, the fire department packs coolers full of ice water, but also keeps tabs on how long a firefighter is battling a blaze. Firefighters rotate between …

Order up freshly brewed iced tea off the menu or create your own blend at Steepery Tea Bar in Woodbury.
Coffee will dehydrate you—not the best during the heat wave we're experiencing in Woodbury. A refreshing and healthy alternative to coffee or soda, iced tea contains antioxidants that are believed to be good for your health. The freshly brewed teas at Steepery Tea Bar in Woodbury are cool, refreshing and uniquely flavorful. These days the most popular iced drinks amongst the younger generation are the bubble teas. “Originally bubble tea meant when you’d shake up your tea, you’d get the bubbles on top, but marketing has now evolved it in to adding tapioca pearls or fruit-like jellies that have a bubble-like appearance to them,” said Tea Garden Steepery general manager Briana Triviski. Prolonged heat and humidity could be dangerous, National Weather Service reports.
Thanks to freakishly hot and humid airmass, nearly the entire state is shrouded in an Excessive Heat Warning per the National Weather Service. Sunday night, at 8:53 p.m., the dewpoint reached 81 degrees, according to the NWS—matching an all time record for the Twin Cities. No, it wasn't just a daily record, the 81 degree dewpoint—a figure which measures the amount of water or humidity in the air—matched an all time record felt just a handfull of times in recorded history. It was so humid and warm, the heat index at 2 a.m. this morning was 102 degrees—hardly sleeping weather. And while it's oppressive here in Woodbury and the Twin Cities, it…
