MnDOT delayed the closures because of weather.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation announced Thursday that lane closures along Interstate 94 were delayed due to weather. The left lane on both east- and westbound I-94 between Century Avenue and the Interstate 694/494 interchange will be closed starting at 7 p.m. tonight, Thursday, May 2, according to the release. The lanes were initially set close May 1, but the work was delayed due to weather. Crews will install “structures for an overhead bridge to support a new electronic traffic sign” for westbound vehicles, according to the release. The lanes are expected to reopen by May 23. The Woodbury Fire Department was able to quickly extinguish both.
The Woodbury Fire Department extinguished two grass fires that broke out along Interstate 94 on Tuesday afternoon. The first call came in at about 12:30 p.m., and the second fire was going by the time crews arrived, said Michelle Okada, Public Safety spokeswoman. Both fires, which sent plumes of smoke in the air and prompted several emergency calls, were on the north side of the freeway, she said. One was west of Inwood Avenue (Radio Drive). The other was about a quarter mile east near Interstate 694, Okada said. Firefighters were able to extinguish both by about 12:50 p.m. April 30, and crews were gone by about 1 p.m. It’s unclear at this point what started the fires, or if one started the other, Okada said. The Minnesota Department of Transportation on Wednesday announced that short-term lane closures along Interstate 94 will begin May 1. The left lane in both directions of the freeway will be closed between Highway 120 and the 694/494 interchange starting at 9 a.m. Wednesday, May 1. The lanes are expected to reopen in mid-May. During the closures, crews will install structures for an overhead bridge to support a new electronic traffic sign for westbound traffic, according to the release. A 16-year-old boy from Houton, Wis., died in a crash on I-94 near Stagecoach Trail Thursday evening in Lakeland, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.
A 16-year-old boy from Houlton, Wis., died in a crash on I-94 near Stagecoach Trail Thursday evening in Lakeland. Jonathon H. Pohlen was traveling westbound on I-94 when he lost control of his vehicle due to snow on the roads, crossed over the median and collided with a semi-truck travelling eastbound on I-94, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. Roger D. Wilkins, 51, of Eau Claire received minor injuries as a result of the crash. A previous story stated the deceased was a female due to inaccurate information from the Minnesota State Patrol. Members of the Gateway Corridor Commission addressed concerns of mass transit opponents at last week's Washington County Board meeting.
Plans to update the I-94 "Gateway Corridor" with some form of high-speed mass transit from St. Paul into western Wisconsin were discussed at last week's Washington County Board meeting, according to a Woodbury Bulletin article by Riham Feshir. An Oakdale man was involved in a five-vehicle crash on Saturday.
An Oakdale man was struck by two vehicles on I-94 Saturday. Randy S. McTigue, 50, was involved in a minor crash with two other vehicles near the Minnesota 280 exit around 7 a.m. When McTigue got out of his car to speak with the other drivers, two other vehicles hit him, according to a report by the Pioneer Press. McTigue was taken to Regions Hospital where he was in serious condition. McTigue's condition changed from serious to fair condition on Sunday, according to Regions Hospital. Witnesses say the 48-year-old River Falls, Wis., woman stopped her vehicle on the shoulder of the bridge Thursday morning, left her 11-year-old daughter inside, climbed over the railing and jumped to her death on the frozen St. Croix River.
St. Croix County Sheriff John Shilts confirmed Friday morning the name of the Wisconsin woman who jumped to her death from the Interstate 94 bridge onto the frozen St. Croix River after leaving her young daughter in the car. Molly Crumley, 48, of River Falls, pulled onto the shoulder of eastbound I-94 on the St. Croix River bridge, exited her vehicle, climbed over the railing and jumped to her death at about 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 27. Witnesses say a woman stopped her vehicle on the shoulder of Interstate 94 at the St. Croix River bridge, left her 11-year-old daughter inside, climbed over the railing and jumped to her death just before 8:30 a.m. on Thursday. The 48-year-old Pierce County, Wis., woman's body was recovered from the ice-covered river by the use of an air boat. Her identity is being withheld until her relatives can be notified, according to a press release fromt the St. Croix County Sheriff's Office. The 11-year-old girl is now in the care of other family members. The incident remains under investigation. Westbound traffic on I-94 is backed up because of a crash at Highway 95. The area already is seeing heavier than normal amounts of traffic because of the Stillwater Lift Bridge closure.
With the I-94 St. Croix River bridge in Hudson already seeing a lot of extra traffic because of the Stillwater Lift Bridge closure, a Wednesday morning crash on westbound I-94 and Highway 95 has vehicles backed up for miles in Hudson. Hudson business owner and philanthropist Paul Rode is spending 24 hours waving the American flag on the Stagecoach Trail overpass over I-94 to help passing motorists remember the 11th anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001.
On Sept. 11, 2001, Paul Rode, then a restaurant manager at Barker's Bar & Grill, was so moved by the events that he went to Walmart, bought an American flag and began waving it on a freeway overpass. Over the past 11 years, Rode has advanced in his career. He now owns The Agave Kitchen and Charlie's Barbershop & Shave. He still buys a flag every year and returns to an Interstate 94 overpass and spends time waving the flag to passing motorists. All 11 of his flags for the years 2001-2011 now hang in his garage. Just as he did last year, Rode and friends will wave flags on the Stagecoach Trail overpass over Interstate-94 for 24 hours.
