Woodbury Sen. Susan Kent: Bill Would Improve Kindergarten Spending Flexibility for Schools

The bill “gives schools the ability to appropriately balance the needs, wants and resources of their district,” Kent said in a statement.

Woodbury Sen. Susan Kent has introduced a bill that she says will provide spending flexibility for school districts offering all-day kindergarten. Below is a release from her office: State Senator Susan Kent (DFL–Woodbury) introduced her first bill for the 2013 Legislative Session. Sen. Kent’s bill, which provides spending flexibility for school districts offering all-day kindergarten, received a hearing in the Education Finance committee on January 31st. I read it that the funding is already in place and this bill allows the school districts flexibility in allocating the funds they receive to both Kindergarteners and those in preschool programs. The district has the option to decide on what children need to be ready for school. It is no way critical of educators. In Woodbury, A Bittersweet Moment

Middleton Elementary hosts “Boo Hoo, Yahoo” event for parents of kindergartners heading off to school for the first time.

The first day of kindergarten: Who is it harder for—the parents or the kids? “The parents. Absolutely the parents,” said Jamie Kuebler, co-president of the Middleton Elementary PTO. As parents and students trickled into the Woodbury elementary school on Thursday morning, it was clear that Kuebler was right. The kindergarteners were merely bewildered by their new surroundings. Many parents dabbed tears from their eyes. The Middleton Elementary PTO for the past several years has hosted a “Boo Hoo, Yahoo” event for parents on the first day of school for kindergarteners.
