Patch is launching our annual Deck the House Contest in an effort to find the most over-the-top holiday decorations in America—or in other words, the best “decked” house in the country. If this sounds like your house, upload a photo or video of your home to our contest page from Nov. 26 to Dec. 16 to deckthehouse.patch.com/contest/Woodbury. Only residents of Patch towns are eligible to enter. We’ll select 24 regional finalists, and from them, pick one grand prize winner. Patch will pay up to $500 of the utility bill for each finalist, while our national winner will have $100,000 donated to his or her local school district. Traffic changes are planned for next week in the major Woodbury roadwork project.
Traffic will get back on the “right” side of the street along Valley Creek Road sometime next week. From Bielenberg Drive to Interlachen Parkway—where traffic has been shifted to one side of the street in both directions—it will still be one lane, however. Crews will be doing “shoulder work” and cars will be routed to the inside lanes on each side of the median, said Lyssa Leitner, Washington County business liaison. A date for the switch hasn’t been set, but it is expected to happen next week, she said. Here are a few suggestions to keep in mind when stringing lights around an evergreen or relaxing beside a cozy fire. The folks at Fireside Hearth and Home warn customers to be aware of how hot fireplaces can get and take precautions to keep flammable materials safely away from them. Children also should be closely monitored at all times, as should pets. They also remind customers to make sure to use a protective screen—and to handle those screens with extreme care, and they can get extremely hot.
