In Woodbury, Cheers Pablo, Osaka, Sheraton, Pei Wei Secure Liquor Licenses

The Woodbury City Council unanimously approved all four during Wednesday night’s meeting.

Cheers Pablo, a new Woodbury art studio that will teach classes to groups—and serve food and wine—is set to open before Valentine’s Day, the owner told Patch. It will open at 8362 Tamarack Village, next door to LensCrafters. Cheers Pablo CEO John Bedard, who lives in Woodbury, was on hand with his wife Chriscell for the City Council’s approval of a liquor license for the establishment. (The council approved three other licenses, as well.) “There is a real need for it in the community and we hope to inspire a lot of people,” Bedard said in December.        Related: Cheers! Woodbury Man Hopes to Open New Liquor Store Soon

The Woodbury City Council on Wednesday approved a liquor license for Aqua Vitae Wines and Spirits.

A Woodbury man plans to open a new liquor store in town during the first quarter of 2013, possibly as early as January. Owner Dave Wolfe, who has lived in the city for the past 15 years, said he’s still working out some of the details for Aqua Vitae Wines and Spirits, set to open at 779 Bielenberg Drive, suite 102. “This is my first foray into it,” said Wolfe, who has experience with local beer wholesalers and Redhook Brewery. Wednesday, the Woodbury City Council approved an off-sale liquor license for the store at Tamarack Hills. The store will carry special items, along with the standard liquor store selections, Wolfe said. He wants Aqua Vitae Wines and Spirits to be a place people can go to get information about beer, wine and liquor in…

Woodbury Council Approves Liquor Licenses for Angelina’s Kitchen, Aldi

Both measures were quickly approved during Wednesday night's City Council meeting.

The Woodbury Aldi will soon offer 3.2 beer and Angelina’s Kitchen can now serve beer and wine following the Woodbury City Council’s unanimous approval of their liquor license applications. No one spoke during public hearings on both matters at Wednesday night’s council meeting. Background checks came back clear for Aldi and Angelina’s Kitchen. Aldi, a discount grocery chain, opened Oct. 5 in the former Borders space at 8427 Tamarack Bay. Councilwoman Julie Ohs called the approval of the liquor license a “routine matter.” Angelina’s Kitchen, meanwhile, has consolidated its two locations (Angelina’s Café), and plans to add a wine bar.  “Best eggplant parmesan in town, by the way,” said Councilwoman Amy Scoggins, who was recently re-elected …

Liquor Licenses Approved for Woody’s, Eagle Valley Golf Course

Meanwhile, the Woodbury City Council on Wednesday also gave the go-ahead for another phase of development at Dancing Waters.

With no discussion Wednesday night, the Woodbury City Council approved liquor licenses for Woody’s Roadhouse and Eagle Valley Golf Course. Woody’s Roadhouse is the new restaurant coming in at the former Throwbacks Grille and Bar. It's set to reopen as Woody's later this month. Woody’s officials have said that the restaurant will have a totally different concept. “In this day and age, entertainment venues just don’t survive,” General Manager David Harvey told Patch. “We’re no longer going to be an entertainment venue that serves food, we’re going to be a restaurant with entertainment in the evenings.” Meanwhile, the city’s municipal golf course will now be able to serve booze. It formerly served only strong beer and wine. The move to …

Woodbury Looks to Tweak Liquor License Policy

For bars fall that below the 50 percent food-sales mark, the city will soon have public-safety criteria in place to guide staff on liquor-license decisions.

Woodbury is keeping its 50-50 policy regarding food and liquor sales at local establishments in place. But for those bars and restaurants that do generate more money from alcohol, Woodbury officials are looking to establish public-safety criteria to determine how to address their liquor licenses. “So that we aren’t penalizing businesses, like O’Malley’s, that really have been working with us,” said Mayor Mary Giuliani Stephens. The way it works now, the Woodbury City Council has a few options regarding liquor licenses at such businesses: continuation, probation, revocation, or elimination of late-night service, said City Administrator Clint Gridley. The new policy would allow establishments that fall below 50 percent food sales (but above …

Woodbury Council Hears Library Update

In other news, the city approved a wine and beer license for the Carbone’s on Eagle Creek Lane and learned that nearly 3,800 people attended the Woodbury Community Expo.

What’s the No. 1 question asked of staffers at the Woodbury library? Where’s the bathroom? No. 2? What type of e-reader should I buy? Those were a couple interesting nuggets laid out by Chad Lubbers, manager of the R.H. Stafford Library, during a presentation at Wednesday night’s Woodbury City Council meeting. Washington County libraries recently began loaning books that can be viewed on most e-readers. People can “check them out” through the library’s website for one- two- or three-week periods, Lubbers said. There are about 500 titles now available through the program, he said. (When asked by Councilman Paul Rebholz which type of e-reader he should buy, Lubbers chuckled and declined to give his opinion.) The library—which Lubbers said is…
