Letter: Woodbury Commissioner Lisa Weik Thanks Voters

Weik, the incumbent, won the District 5 Washington County Board seat on Tuesday.

Dear Woodbury voters,  I want to express my sincere appreciation to my fellow Woodbury residents who re-elected me to the county board on Nov. 6. I am humbled by the strong show of support I received in the General Election in my newly re-drawn commissioner district and consider it an honor and privilege to represent you.  I also appreciate the time and efforts of my campaign committee for helping with my re-election bid; your steadfast support was critical to my success. I couldn't have done it without your help or without the unwavering support of my husband and family. I want to acknowledge my opponent, Nancy Remakel, for running a clean, issues-based campaign. I’m grateful to have debated relevant issues in public formats for citizens …

Letter: Lisa Weik Delivers as County Commissioner

Woodbury’s Jim Arend says the Washington County Board incumbent “places a high priority on obtaining citizen input on issues reviewed by decision makers.”

During her short tenure on the Washington County Board, Woodbury resident Lisa Weik has never failed to put the public and taxpayers first. Unlike a lot of "politicians," Lisa is not afraid to tell you where she stands on important issues that affect our community. In an uncertain housing market and lingering recession, I'm grateful for leaders like Lisa who use business acumen from private-sector experience to set sound public policy and deliver responsible budgeting.   Since in office, Commissioner Lisa Weik has kept the tax levy flat for three straight years, created a partnership with Greater MSP to attract businesses to locate in Woodbury to grow the tax base, and has saved taxpayers $1 million over the next 10 years by opposing the …

+1 she doesn't answer my e-mails or return my phone calls. Also, you forgot the part about her never voting no. I go to nearly every County Commissioner Meeting on tuesdays at 0900 in Stillwater and she's the only commissioner out of the five that hasn't voted no to increase spending every chance she can for any project with a request. Last month she voted yes to continue the 37.5% tax on our …   more ›

Letter: Former Washington County Commissioner Backs Lisa Weik

Dave Engstrom says the District 5 incumbent “is not afraid to fight for what she believes is right.”

I am writing to offer my support for the re-election of Washington County Commissioner Lisa Weik for District 5. I was honored to have been elected twice from District 5 and served as county commissioner on the Washington County Board in the 1990s. As a former board member, I continue to pay close attention to the issues facing our county and the decisions our commissioners make. On numerous occasions I have had the pleasure of discussing county board agenda items with Commissioner Weik. I have found her to be knowledgeable, understanding and creative in finding workable solutions. She is not afraid to fight for what she believes is right. Lisa Weik has served this year as vice chair of the Washington County Board, and with your help and …

Letter: Commissioner Lisa Weik is a ‘Champion for County Taxpayers’

Woodbury resident Tom Spencer says a vote for Lisa Weik is “a no brainer.”

My wife Michele and I have raised four children while living in Woodbury since 1992. As election time approaches every two years, we make a mental list of the things we believe would make Woodbury a better place in which to live. We then compare our list with the public statements of candidates for various city and county elections. In this year’s election cycle, Nancy Remakel, who is challenging Lisa Weik the incumbent Washington County commissioner in District 5, has stated that she would raise county taxes to develop public transit along the I-94 corridor and to improve the county library system. These initiatives, according to Ms. Remakle, would help to stimulate economic development within the county. (Editor’s note: Remakel told …

Wow, rave review. She is not a watchdog for tax payers at all. As a WC resident who regularly attends the County Commissioner meetings I've yet to see a proposed spending initiative she hasn't voted yes for. Whether it's to continue the 37% tax on garbage to subsidize RRT to sort through and send out garbage to be burned even though they refuse to show us their books or it's another million …   more ›

Letter: Weik Answered the Bell as Washington County Commissioner

Woodbury resident Betty Marquardt says she will again vote for the District 5 incumbent.

There are many reasons why one decides to support one candidate over another when they are first running for office.  For me, the important issues are always: what kind of commitment do they show, how dedicated are they to the position for which they are running, how well do they listen to their constituents, how concerned are they about their community, and, once elected, will they fulfill the promises they have made? Those questions have been answered in spades! Lisa Weik is running for re-election to the Washington County Board of Commissioners and has proven many times over just how seriously she takes her position. I have rarely seen anyone who is as dedicated and committed to her job as she is.  Commissioner Weik attends any and all …

Letter: Commissioner Weik Right on Taxes, Plan to Restore Library Hours

Woodbury resident Tony Tedesco voices his support for the incumbent.

The other day, Washington County Commissioner Lisa Weik stopped by my home. She is seeking re-election to the Washington County Board District 5 seat, and was going door-to-door in my neighborhood to discuss county issues and funding priorities for next year. I was very impressed with Lisa Weik's dedication to talking directly with taxpayers about budget issues during hard economic times.  We had a good conversation about the importance of keeping property taxes low, her efforts to restore library hours in Woodbury and her support of the county's efforts to consolidate government services and eliminate duplication to cut costs for taxpayers. She supported adoption of the 2013 preliminary budget with a net tax levy unchanged from 2012 that …

If you go to this Tuesday's board meeting you'll find she is voting to continue a 35% tax on our garbage removal to RRT who burns the garbage for us. They refuse to show us their records, and they've promised every year they'll no longer need the $8.4 million dollar subsidy. Weik wants to continue wasting these tax dollars when Safe landfills can take the trash without the 35% tax subsidy.   more ›

Letter: Lisa Weik Works for Woodbury Taxpayers

Bob Andrews says the Washington County Board incumbent “strongly supports maintaining a realistic, structurally balanced county budget that limits tax increases, promotes public safety and addresses infrastructure needs.”

As someone who takes more than a casual interest in local government, I’ve watched Lisa Weik’s tenure on the county board with admiration.   She suspended a successful career in medical device compliance at Medtronic to give back to her community, serving our district well since a special election in 2008. Her work as chairwoman of the Gateway transit study garnered our district a recent appointment to the National Association of Counties Transportation Steering Committee, directly bringing Woodbury’s transportation needs to national policy decisions. Lisa has been a champion for implementing efficiencies through the use of lean process management and technology and was instrumental in consolidating two watershed districts two years ago to…

Hey Bob, Lisa Weik is not the fiscal champion you think she is. Lisa runs the Gateway Corridor Commission that has a $1.4 billion plan to run a 25+ ton light rail train zig-zagging through residential St. Paul. Studies have shown high opposition to Gateway Corridor. Studies have shown the train wouldn't have riders. Studies have shown Woodbury doesn't a light rail train or its tax burden. …   more ›
