Man Dies Following Highway 36 Crash at Manning Avenue

A 42-year-old Marine on St. Croix man died Thursday after a crash on Highway 36 near Manning Avenue in Lake Elmo, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

A 42-year-old Marine on St. Croix man died Thursday after a two-vehicle crash on Highway 36 at Manning Avenue, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. John R. Larson was driving eastbound on Highway 36 in a 1997 Saturn, and had a green arrow to go northbound on Manning Avenue when he was broad-sided by a 2010 Dodge Caravan driven by Kenneth Tougaw, 40, of Bayport, according to a State Patrol crash report. Larson died as a result of the crash, according to the State Patrol. Tougaw reportedly suffered minor injuries. A very tragic accident. And a senseless death. A lesson to be learned though is that even though one has the right of way, LOOK before moving. Evidently in this case the one driver didn't see the red light or was trying to beat it on the yellow and didn't make it before light turned red. Either way a person has lost their life.   more ›

Manning Avenue House Fire: ‘A Total Loss’

The Woodbury Fire Department was among several agencies that responded to the early-morning house fire in Afton.

A home at the 1100 block of Manning Avenue South in Afton was destroyed by fire early Friday morning. One man and his dog were able to escape the blaze, which broke out at about 4:15 a.m. Friday morning, according to Tom Frazer, communications coordinator with Washington County. “The house appears to be a total loss,” he said. The fire was under control by about 6:45 a.m. Friday morning, Frazer said. At about 9:45 a.m. the house was still smoking and crews were putting water on the structure. Dave Schneider, a captain with the Lower St. Croix Valley Fire Department, said several "tender tankers" were needed to get water to the home, located down a half-mile gravel driveway off Manning Avenue.
