More than halfway through April, but winter still isn't relenting. Forecasters predict significant snowfall tonight across the metro area—and an isolated thunderstorm or two.
Prep your snowblowers and warm up those tired shoveling muscles; another winter storm warning has been issued for Woodbury and much of the Twin Cities area. The National Weather Service is expecting as much as 6 to 10 inches of snow on Monday night, with snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches an hour expected. Isolated thunderstorms may be possible in the main band of snow, which will likely stretch from New Ulm across the Twin Cities to Hayward, Wis. The snowstorm will likely be preceded by rain in the late afternoon, forecasters say. A winter storm warning is in effect. Meanwhile, the city of Woodbury on Monday sent out a reminder that outdoor athletic fields remain closed. Using the fields during the spring "thaw" can cause damage and delay …

There were no serious injuries reported Monday morning.
More than 30 crashes were reported in Woodbury as of 10:20 a.m. Monday morning as the city saw the first significant snowfall of the season. No one was hospitalized as a result of the crashes, said Woodbury traffic officer Scott Melander. Often, motorists were sliding through stop signs or traffic lights, Melander said.
