Community Development Director Dwight Picha on Wednesday ran down the latest development and business updates for the Woodbury City Council. Here are the updates from previous Patch posts and Picha, who is also the 2012 Woodbury Citizen of the Year. Eagle Brook Church has applied for a building permit for a new church near the intersection of Settlers Ridge Parkway and Brookview Road. The church hopes to start work this spring. The Woodbury location is the fifth Eagle Brook Church campus. Woodbury Lakes on Thursday announced that Sola Salon Studios is set to open at the outdoor mall early this summer. Sola Salon uses a “salon suite business model,” giving stylists the freedom to operate their own business, according to a release. The new sandwich shop is set to open in April.
Comparing Jersey Mike’s Subs to places like Subway or Jimmy John’s is “like comparing Taco Bell to Chipotle.” That’s according to Brian Risch, who plans to open a Jersey Mike’s Subs in Woodbury this April. It will be located between Cold Stone Creamery and Noodles & Company at 7455 Currell Boulevard. “We’re excited,” said Risch, who lives in Woodbury. “It’s like no other sandwich place.” The subs, which come in hot or cold varieties at 7 ½ or 15 inches, have a “Jersey flair,” Risch said, and feature a more oil and vinegar flavor than mayonnaise. Torque Studio Cycle is set to open in Woodbury later this month. The exercise studio offers indoor cycling classes, “100 percent spin,” said partner Jason Kramer, who lives in Woodbury. It will open at 8160 Coller Way, near Great Harvest Bread Co. An open house is scheduled for noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, and Torque will offer a free first class for those interested. Torque Studio Cycle will open that weekend. Orange Leaf is set to join Freeziac and CherryBerry, according to a Minneapolis-St. Paul Business Journal story.
There’s another addition coming to the Woodbury frozen yogurt game. Orange Leaf plans to open a store in Woodbury near Hudson Road and Woodbury Drive, according to a post from the Minneapolis-St. Paul Business Journal. Orange Leaf offers frozen yogurt in a do-it-yourself fashion. Its website lists the Woodbury location as "coming spoon." The store will be located at 10150 Hudson Road, according to a map linked on its website. Work is underway at the site near the Woodbury SuperTarget.
Construction on a new 8,000-square-foot retail building is underway near the Woodbury SuperTarget, and leases have been signed for 80 percent of the space. European Wax, Vivie Nails and Great Clips are set occupy the structure once it’s built, said Paul Maenner, partner with MW Development. They are expected to open in late spring 2013. There have also been discussions with a restaurant for a fourth tenant at the building, he said. “We’ve got some excellent momentum going there,” Maenner said. “We’re really pleased with how the market is responding.” Meanwhile, McDonald’s is planning to build a free-standing restaurant at the Commerce Hill site, he said. Waxing the City has signed a lease to open in the former City Walk Dental location.
A new waxing salon is planning to open in the former City Walk Dental space. Waxing the City has signed a lease to occupy the location, at the 10000 block of City Walk Drive, Dawn Richardson, property manager for CityWalk, told Patch. She wasn’t sure when it’s planning to open, but crews were doing work there on Tuesday. Related: What Should Go Here?
