There were two last year, according to figures provided by the Woodbury Public Safety Department.
Among the more than 300 people arrested on suspicion of DWI in Minnesota over the New Year’s Eve timeframe, there were six in Woodbury. That’s a slight jump from the two who were busted for drinking and driving last year, according to numbers provided by the Woodbury Public Safety Department. From Dec. 1, 2011, to Jan. 1, 2012, there were 19 people arrested on DWI charges. This past month that number was 26. The total number of DWI offenses in Woodbury in 2011 was 130; for 2012 it was 150. The Minnesota Department of Public Safety on Wednesday reported that at least 300 people were arrested for DWI statewide on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, according to its preliminary arrest information. The arrest numbers come from the State Patrol…

Whether you’re heading out for a big event or just having some friends over for a low-key celebration, here are a few items to pass along as we ring in the New Year. The state Department of Public Safety this week noted that Minnesota has not had a drunk-driving traffic death on New Year’s Eve/Day for the past four years. “All it takes is one bad decision for our roads to turn deadly,” State Patrol Lt. Eric Roeske said in a release. “In many cases, that bad decision occurs when someone decides get behind the wheel after a night of drinking.” In Woodbury, police encourage people to get their plans in place before they begin their New Year’s Eve revelry. See: A Perfect Party Means Planning Ahead Last year, Patch asked area bartenders for …

Champagne and New Year's Eve are a given, but Woodbury Patch decided to check out what other creative and tasty cocktails local bartenders recommend for the evening.
Are you ringing in the New Year here in Woodbury? You're probably familiar with champagne and typical cocktail standards. But for those seeking something a little different, Woodbury Patch asked three local bartenders for some fun drink options for New Year's Eve. Axel's Axel's Prestwick Golf Club bartender, Ale Keck, says the Flirtini ($8.25) is a fabulous drink option for New Year's Eve. Fresh raspberries line the bottom of a martini glass, then a shaken raspberry-flavored vodka, cranberry and pineapple juice mixture are poured over the raspberries. Lastly, a touch of sparkling wine is poured into the mixture, giving the raspberries a bubbly kick. "It's a refreshingly light-drinking cocktail, and the bubbles tickle your palate with …

Woodbury Sgt. Curt Zacharias says the police force isn't out to spoil a good time on New Year's Eve. He just wants people to plan ahead and stay safe.
With New Year's Eve right around the corner, Woodbury Patch asked a local police officer about how the department prepares for the holiday and how people can stay safe. Woodbury police Sgt. Curt Zacharias says the biggest thing to remember on New Year's Eve is simply to plan ahead. Woodbury Patch: Is New Year's Eve still a big night for drinking, especially this year, with it falling on a Friday? Sgt. Curt Zacharias: I believe it is. It's not the big night that it used to be, but it's still a concern for us in public safety. We're not here to quash anybody's good time. We just ask that people give it some thought. Take a cab, get a sober driver—please don't get behind the wheel. Patch: Does the police force do anything different on New …
