It's the latest the course has opened in five years.
Oak Marsh Golf Course in Oakdale is opening for the season on Sunday. Already, more than 200 people have signed up for tee times, said Steve Whillock, general manager and director of golf. Oak Marsh is typically one of the first courses in the area to open each year, Whillock said. Yet the long winter weather delayed the opening a bit, and 2013 is the latest the course has opened in five years, he said. The course typically opens in mid-March, Whillock said. The range at Oak Marsh opened Thursday, and people were taking advantage, Whillock said, even though golfers sometimes had to walk over snow banks. She has been missing since December 2012.
The reward for information leading to the location of Danielle Jelinek has been increased to $25,000, her sister Cory said Wednesday. Jelinek, 28, of Oakdale, was last seen on Dec. 8, 2012, in Chisago City. She was reported missing the next day. Those with information regarding her whereabouts are asked to call the Chisago County Sheriff’s Department at 651-257-4100. A fundraiser was held in late March at the Dog House Bar & Grill in Maplewood, and a Facebook page called Danielle Mary Jelinek Search Team has also been created to help spread awareness about Jelinek’s disappearance. The “painting delegation” is heading south next month.
A small group from Guardian Angels Catholic Church is ready to get its hands dirty. A “painting delegation” will be traveling to Nicaragua April 13-21 to help repair and restore a house that hosts several organizations and churches throughout the year, including Guardian Angels. Brian James Mehlhorn was sentenced in early March following incidents in Woodbury and Oakdale.
An Oakdale man was sentenced earlier this month following convictions on two burglaries and one car theft. Brian James Mehlhorn, 30, who has a lengthy rap sheet according to state records, was sentenced to nearly two years in prison, with credit for 156 days served, following his convictions for: Mehlhorn must also pay nearly $20,000 in combined in restitution to the victims. He is also a suspect in other cases. According to the criminal complaints: Woodbury burglary Woodbury police were called in December 2011 on a report that an unattached garage at an apartment complex at the 6700 block of Ashwood Road had been burglarized, and tires and rims (valued at $2,424) and a $330 bicycle had been stolen. A longtime Stillwater teacher was found dead in bed at the scene of a townhouse fire in Oakdale early Tuesday morning. Authorities are investigating.
A longtime Stillwater Area School District teacher was found dead at a townhouse fire in the 7000 block of 19th Street in Oakdale early Tuesday morning. The woman who died, Catherine A. Weschcke, 65, was a teacher at Rutherford Elementary School in Stillwater, according to a notice from District 834. Some of the schools she worked at include Andersen, Stonebridge, Lake Elmo, and most recently, Rutherford. “The Rutherford community has a very heavy heart today after learning of the tragic death of former teacher, Catherine Weschcke,” Rutherford Principal Heather Nelson said in a statement. “Catherine worked hard to help support students in their desire to grow and learn.
