East Ridge High School was the setting for a mock crash Friday, May 24.
An East Ridge High School student approached Woodbury officer Scott Melander on Friday morning after the Public Safety Department put on a demonstration of what can happen in the wake of a drunk-driving crash. “I cried,” she said. Melander responded: “The important part is, after you walk away from it today to remember it down the road.” The demonstration Friday morning included a head-on collision, dead students, one angry driver and a teen driver taken away in handcuffs. Crashes are the No. 1 cause of death for teenagers, and as graduation approaches, it’s important to remind young people of the dangers of drinking and driving, Melander said. Jesse Galloway, who took the hands-only CPR class at Crossroads Church, was able to help save his father's life during a heart attack.
Thanks to a 30-minute CPR class at Woodbury's Crossroads Church, 14-year-old Jesse Galloway knew how to perform chest compressions that were able to help save his father's life during a heart attack. Jesse, of Cottage Grove, learned hands-only CPR as part of the Public Safety Department's Take Heart Woodbury campaign. The city reached its yearlong goal of training 7,000 people in hands-only CPR in February. Woodbury officials recognized Jesse during Wednesday night's Woodbury City Council meeting. The city urges motorists to use detours during Woodbury Drive construction.
The idea isn't just to hand out a bunch of tickets. The goal is to keep neighborhoods safe. The city on Wednesday sent out a notice urging drivers to use detours during the Woodbury Drive construction project. There have been complaints from residents about traffic volumes and speeding along Eagle Valley Drive. When cars are stopped in the neighborhoods surrounding the project, drivers may be asked to state their business. And motorists can be cited for not following posted signage—including detours. “Broadly speaking, when there is a posted road closure or road closed to thru traffic and officers stop a vehicle, they may site a driver for not obeying posted signs per MN Statute 169.06,” according to a statement Woodbury Public Safety …

Patch has received several reports of coyotes in town, and the city’s Public Safety Department recently posted information on the animals on its Facebook page.
Coyotes are often spotted in Woodbury. The Public Safety Department on Monday, May 13, reported on its Facebook page that it receives numerous calls from residents about coyotes, and people often contact Patch after seeing them. “Unfortunately, there is not a lot an officer can do unless there is an imminent concern for safety,” reads the notice from the Public Safety Department. City officials provided a number of dos and don’ts regarding coyotes, and provided a link to information from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. Washington County Tornado Drill Day. The statewide drills give schools, business, hospitals and other organizations a chance to practice their emergency plans. Washington County will also conduct a second drill at 6:55 p.m. Don't know what to do? Dean Tilley, Radio System Manager with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office said he has been doing this since 1996, and this is the first time he remembers snow falling during a tornado drill day.

The City of Woodbury is seeking volunteers to fill Police Reserve Officer positions in its Public Safety Department. From the job listing on the city's website: The Woodbury Police Reserves program is staffed by a dedicated group of women and men from varied occupations and provide at least 10 hours of service each month. The Reserve Officer is a non-sworn, uniformed member of the Police Department. Reserve officers do not carry firearms and do not have authority to make arrests, but they do serve in critical roles that enhance the work of Woodbury’s sworn police officers. The annual charity game was held Wednesday night at Woodbury High School.
Woodbury High School staff squared off on the hardwood against members of the Woodbury Public Safety Department for a Wednesday night fundraiser to benefit the Link Crew. The Link Crew at WHS works to connect upperclassmen with freshmen as the younger students transition to high school. The basketball game was fun and lighthearted, and one WHS staffer dressed up in a beard and sweatpants, at times limping around using a cane (not on the court). The staff at Woodbury High School put together a little trash-talking video beforehand, but the public safety team came out on top. Still, in the end, the game was all about supporting the Link Crew. A longtime Stillwater teacher was found dead in bed at the scene of a townhouse fire in Oakdale early Tuesday morning. Authorities are investigating.
A longtime Stillwater Area School District teacher was found dead at a townhouse fire in the 7000 block of 19th Street in Oakdale early Tuesday morning. The woman who died, Catherine A. Weschcke, 65, was a teacher at Rutherford Elementary School in Stillwater, according to a notice from District 834. Some of the schools she worked at include Andersen, Stonebridge, Lake Elmo, and most recently, Rutherford. “The Rutherford community has a very heavy heart today after learning of the tragic death of former teacher, Catherine Weschcke,” Rutherford Principal Heather Nelson said in a statement. “Catherine worked hard to help support students in their desire to grow and learn.
