Patch's panel of Twin Cities area Republicans are divided over the GOP delegation's decision to hand the majority of its votes to Ron Paul at the party's national convention.
A snap Red Twin Cities poll conducted by Patch in the wake of the Minnesota delegation's announcement to give the majority of its delegates to Ron Paul shows the state's leaders are divided by the Paul candidacy. UPDATE: Read the complete story on the Minnesota delegation's decision While more than 80 percent–33 out of 40–of Minnesota's delegates are behind the Paul candidacy, only 55 percent of the 29 responses Patch received showed support for that decision. "He's not our endorsed candidate," said one of the pollsters. Nearly 21 percent disagreed strongly with the idea to give delegates to Ron Paul. About 14 percent were somewhat disagreeable to the notion. Lake Minnetonka Patch contributor and Excelsior Republican Marianne Stebbins…

Craig Westover of Afton will be among the 32 “Liberty Republicans” dominating the Minnesota delegation in support of Texas Congressman Ron Paul’s presidential campaign at next week's Republican National Convention.
Craig Westover of Afton will be among the “Liberty Republicans” dominating the Minnesota delegation in support of Texas Congressman Ron Paul’s presidential campaign. Westover, 62, a former contributing columnist to the St. Paul Pioneer Press is among the 80-person delegation (40 delegates and 40 alternates) that will represent Minnesota at the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Aug 27-30. Of Minnesota’s 40 national delegates, 32 are Liberty Republicans. “The most important movement in American politics today is occurring within the Republican Party,” Westover said. “Ron Paul and Liberty Republicans are driving the Republican Party back to its small “r” republican roots of constitutional, limited government and individual liberty. Republican-endorsed U.S. Senate candidate Kurt Bills sits down with Patch for a one-on-one interview.
Kurt Bills, the Republican-endorsed U.S. Senate candidate in Minnesota, hopes to have a good showing Tuesday as he faces off against David Carlson and Bob Carney Jr. in the Primary Election. The Republican from Rosemount, who has served one year in the Minnesota House of Representatives, has already set his sights on incumbent DFL Sen. Amy Klobuchar, who is wrapping up her first term on The Hill. Bills visited Northfield on Friday for the sixth annual Second Congressional District Reagan Dinner and took time before the dinner to chat with Patch. In this 10-minute video interview with Patch, Bills answers questions about jobs, agriculture, why he should be elected Minnesota's next Senator and responds to Carlson calling him a "disciple of …

In our inaugural “Red Twin Cities” survey, influential Republicans paint an early picture for November's general election.
More than two-thirds of influential Republicans from around the Twin Cities Patch areas believe Mitt Romney can pull off an upset win in Minnesota in 2012. First, the survey shows, the presumed nominee has to reach out to Ron Paul Republicans. Ninety-six conservatives from Twin Cities Patch areas—from St. Michael to Woodbury, Fridley to Northfield—were surveyed last week in Patch’s inaugural Twin Cities Red poll, which focused on November’s biggest race. Forty responses were collected. When asked if they felt Mitt Romney could pick up a win over President Barack Obama in the fall, two-thirds expressed optimism. “Every race is winnable,” said one Republican respondent (all survey answers were anonymous). “It’s possible if enough people are …

An aggregated daily roundup of news and commentary about U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann.
Just days before the Iowa caucus, sixth-district congresswoman and presidential candidate Michele Bachmann’s campaign was dealt a pair of blows as a pro-Bachmann Super PAC defected to rival Mitt Romney and Iowa campaign chair, Kent Sorensen, switched allegiances to Ron Paul. Citizens for a Working America, a political action committee with deep pockets, had announced it would be supporting Bachmann earlier in the year. But on Christmas Eve, the group made a $475,000 ad buy supporting Romney, The Daily reported on Wednesday. Norm Cummings, an official with the Super PAC, told Politico that the group wanted to put a quick end to the divisive nominating contest. Kent Sorenson, Bachmann’s campaign chair, gave his boss little warning that he …

In one of the most surprising moments of the 2012 campaign, Sen. Kent Sorenson strolled on stage just moments before Ron Paul was set to speak and declared that he had switched his allegiance.
Do you think this is a knock-out blow to Bachmann's presidential bid?
An aggregated daily roundup of news and commentary about U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann.
By the end of the day today, sixth-district congresswoman and presidential candidate Michele Bachmann will have visited 96 of Iowa’s 99 counties in her final push before the first nominating contest on Jan. 3. At campaign stops Tuesday, she told crowds that she is the only candidate who will “dismantle” the nation’s “system of socialism.” “We are at a time in our country when we are full-on embracing socialism,” she said during a stop in Glenwood. “Now I know it’s hard to imagine, but there are even Republicans that want to be socialists in Washington D.C. … I have stood up against them as well.” She also criticized rivals Ron Paul and Mitt Romney for their stances on gay marriage. “Mitt Romney has defended gay marriage and even signed …

An aggregated daily roundup of news and commentary about U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann.
Sixth-district congresswoman and presidential candidate Michele Bachmann has entered into a feud with rival Republican Ron Paul over Paul’s comments on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” that Bachmann “hates Muslims.” “She doesn’t like Muslims, she hates them, she wants to go get ‘em,” Paul said on Friday. Now, in an interview with ABC News, Bachmann has struck back, denying Paul’s claims and making counter-accusations. “Of course I don’t hate Muslims,” she said, “that’s an absolutely outrageous statement.” Bachmann said Paul’s allegation came out of her view that Iran is seeking nuclear weapons to destroy the United States and Israel. “With all due respect to my colleague, I think Ron Paul would make a very dangerous president because he …

Mr. Hodgson, The Rnc has apparently passed rules that make it harder for candidates like Ron Paul elected. You would have to research it but, I believe the comment by one idividual within that structure was, "..if you can't beat him, beat him with a stick.." How's that for democracy? I believe it's not just DC, it's the corporate/goverment structure like Eisenhower talked about. The U.S. Fruit …   more ›
