Woodbury Drive Project Delayed Due to Weather... Again

Washington County planned to update the signage Tuesday.

Because of yet another spring snowstorm, the Woodbury Drive roadwork project has been delayed. It is now to begin Monday, April 29, weather permitting. Washington County planned to update the signage Tuesday, according to Jason Egerstrom, Woodbury communications coordinator. This is the third time the project has been delayed because of weather. The project calls for Woodbury Drive to be expanded to four lanes from Park Crossing to a quarter mile south of Bailey Road. Roundabouts will be installed at the Lake and Bailey road intersections. It will be done in phases, with the northern part of the project area closing first. Phase I April through July. Road construction on Woodbury Drive from just south of Park Crossing/Eagle Valley Drive …

Beginning Monday, April 22, Woodbury Drive (County Road 19) will be closed from Park Crossing to south of Lake Road. Also, beginning on Wednesday, April 17, Radio Drive will be closed from Bailey Road to south of Hargis Parkway. Original Story, April 9 In addition to construction in several neighborhoods this summer, Woodbury will also see roadwork on two major thoroughfares: Woodbury Drive and Radio Drive. Roundabout Planned at Radio Drive and Military Road in Woodbury

The work could begin this fall or in 2014.

Washington County plans to construct a single-lane roundabout at the intersection of Radio Drive and Military Road in Woodbury. The county had planned some road improvements in the area and will also begin expanding Radio Drive from Bailey Road to Hargis Parkway this spring, and it made sense to consider the roundabout at this point, said Cory Slagle, Washington County transportation manager. The county isn’t sure if the work would begin this fall or in 2014, he said. A feasibility study must also be completed. “It’s not fully definite yet,” Slagle said. While it would be a single-lane roundabout, it could be expanded in the future—the county plans to eventually make Radio Drive a four-lane road at Military Road. “We would design it with …

Crash at Radio Drive and Bailey Road Roundabout Turns Truck on Its Side

No one was injured in the crash, which happened just before 2:30 p.m. Monday.

The back end of a truck was clipped by another vehicle as it went through the roundabout at Radio Drive and Bailey Road, sending the Ford F-150 on its side Monday afternoon. No one was injured in the crash, which was surprising, said Allan Olson, Woodbury police officer/paramedic. Police got the call at 2:26 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21. A juvenile driver, with four other people in his 2007 Nissan Murano, was heading southbound on Radio Drive when he failed to yield at the roundabout and hit the truck, a 2013 model that had been purchased only a month ago, Olson said. The truck turned on its side and slid along the road but did not fully roll over, he said. A father and his daughter were in the truck; they were heading to the airport, Olson said. …

With Urban Village on the Horizon, Woodbury OK's Radio Drive Expansion Plans

Washington County officials also detailed why the Radio Drive-Hargis Parkway intersection will have a signal instead of a roundabout.

As Woodbury prepares for a new mixed-use development at the southwest corner of Radio Drive and Bailey Road, the City Council on Wednesday approved plans for roadway expansion in the area. Radio Drive will be expanded from two lanes to four from Bailey Road to Hargis Parkway, and a third pedestrian underpass will be installed near the Radio-Bailey intersection. (County staff is busy with other projects, so Woodbury is acting as the lead agency for the roadwork.) Bielenberg Gardens, which calls for retail, commercial and residential growth across 200 acres at the site, “is really driving this project,” City Engineer Klayton Eckles said. The developer wants to move forward with the work, and Woodbury is hoping to begin construction next May …

1. What happens when the signal is red to north/south traffic and it backs up to the roundabout at Bailey? 2. Interesting that these "lessons" about roundabouts were learned after they were incorporated in to the Woodbury Dr design over the objections of parents with kids that will have to run the gauntlet at Lake & Woodbury.   more ›

Council Moves Forward with Woodbury Drive Expansion Project

One resident, representing the business park at Woodbury Drive and Lake Road, spoke during a public hearing.

Woodbury Drive is one step closer to being a four-lane highway with two new roundabouts following the City Council’s actions Wednesday night. The council unanimously voted in favor of ordering the project and entering a cooperative agreement with Washington County. Plans call for the road to be expanded from two lanes to four from Park Crossing to a quarter mile south of Bailey Road. Roundabouts are planned at Bailey and Lake roads. Of the approximately $14 million cost of the project, about $3.5 million would fall to the city. However, more than $2 million of that figure will come from state aid funds, and about $243,000 will be paid through assessments, the bulk of that coming from the two nearby churches and Prestwick Golf Club. (An …

‘Italian Hitman,’ 25 Trips Around the Roundabout, Boys in Blue?: Woodbury Police Blotter

Selected calls to the Woodbury Public Safety Department from July 26-31

The following information was obtained from recent police reports. Police removed a bat a woman at the 1800 block of Donegal Drive had captured in a box after her cat caught it. The bat was transported to Colby Lake Park and released. A Woodbury resident, who was away on vacation, called police after someone tried to access his bank account online. The man has friends staying at the house, and reported that things seemed to have been moved around. The man told police he has a suspect, an ex-friend who may have a key to his home. A home at the 300 block of Leeward Trail was burglarized and a $400 “RCV” was reported stolen. Workers at the Animal Humane Society reported seeing a woman punching her dog in her car. An employee yelled at the …

Woodbury, County Tussle Over Radio Drive-Hargis Parkway Intersection

The city council questioned why a roundabout is off the table for the intersection as part of a plan to expand Radio Drive. Would you rather see a roundabout there?

City officials say the county has them convinced. Roundabouts are a good way to run an intersection. So it came as a surprise to Woodbury Mayor Mary Giuliani Stephens when county transportation officials said a roundabout is not an option for the intersection of Radio Drive and Hargis Parkway. “It’s not clear to us why (a stoplight) is so much more superior,” she said during a workshop meeting Wednesday. “You guys have sold us on roundabouts,” Councilman Paul Rebholz added. “What I don’t get is: why don’t we just do them?” Plans call for Radio Drive to be expanded from two lanes to four, generally from Bailey Road south to Hargis Parkway. Though it’s a Washington County roadway, the city has taken the lead on the project due to current …

Residents Get Last Chance To Chime In On Woodbury Drive Project

The Woodbury City Council will be asked for its approval of the roadway expansion project this May.

Washington County officials say they understand the concerns residents have regarding the coming Woodbury Drive expansion project. But at the same time, “we’ve never been able to do what we’re doing here,” said Wayne Sandberg, county engineer, who went on to cite the steps taken to satisfy those concerns while crafting a roadway that will serve the area decades into the future. Safety and accessibility are key to the project, which has faced challenges due to the highway’s narrow right-of-way, he said.       County outlines plans to expand Woodbury Drive An open house about the project was held at the Eagle Valley Golf Course clubhouse on Thursday, the last chance for residents to voice their thoughts about the project before the Woodbury …

They are going to do a lot of planting and conduct a speed study there Cindy. But the council did express concerns about a chicken/egg situation—they figure people will just drive what's posted. I know Antrim has been a concern, but the roundabouts are supposed to provide gaps for motorists. Not sure about peds there.   more ›

Residents ‘Fired Up’ About Woodbury Drive Project

The president of a local homeowners association told Woodbury City Council members about their concerns during Wednesday’s meeting.

Residents who live near Woodbury Drive, where the county plans to expand the road from two lanes to four, are concerned about the nature of the project. Al Rudnickas, president of the Wedgewood Association, spoke during the open forum portion of Wednesday night’s Woodbury City Council meeting, saying the project is akin to putting a “size 12 foot into a size 8 shoe.” Washington County plans to expand Woodbury Drive from two lanes to four from Saint Ambrose Church north to Park Crossing. The latest plans call for roundabouts at the Lake and Bailey roads intersections. Rudnickas said residents in the area are “fired up” about the project, which faces challenges because of the narrow right-of-way. (The county’s motto for the project is “every…

I am in agreement with the posts above as I've been present at both presentations and although the perception is that they want/desire feedback from the individuals most impacted by the project, their actions in what we've seen suggest the exact opposite. I've discussed this project with many of our neighbors and two roundabouts would make it nearly impossible to get out of our Wedgewood Valley …   more ›
