District 833 Seeks Feedback from Residents on Services

Meetings will be held later this month, and an online survey will go live on the district’s website Jan. 15.

South Washington County Schools will hold a series of upcoming meetings—and post a survey on its website—as it looks for feedback on services amid budget constraints. “The Service Level Process being developed, and soon to be presented, is intended to support improved alignment of what we do and what we provide for students to the financial resources over time,” reads a release from the district. “All District 833 parents and residents are invited and encouraged to attend the upcoming conversations regarding the alignment of services to the budget.” The meetings with residents will outline district services and how South Washington County Schools plans to “better align our financial resources,” the release says. Service Planned for Andrew Sommer at Woodbury High School

The Spanish teacher died Dec. 19, 2012.

A service for Andrew Sommer, the Woodbury High School teacher who died earlier this month, will be held at the school at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, according to an obituary on legacy.com. Sommer passed away Dec. 19, 2012, after a battle with cancer. He was 54. The service at Woodbury High School will be held in the auditorium. “We are mourning the loss of our colleague and friend. He remains an outstanding member of the Woodbury High School faculty, touching the lives of countless students, staff and parents,” Principal Linda Plante said in a statement. “As a College in the Schools Spanish instructor, Andy brought rigor to the classroom, and laughter and joy to his students. Washington County Announces 2013 Hours for Libraries

After a year of Sunday and Monday closures, the Woodbury library will be open seven days a week (except summer months) starting in 2013.

Sunday and Monday service will return to the R.H. Stafford Library in Woodbury in 2013. Washington County Library eliminated service on those days at all branches in 2012, as part of a cost-cutting measure. The library system on Wednesday announced hours for 2013.
