Call About Shoplifting at Woodbury Walmart Turns into Heroin Bust

The incident occurred in late November.

A report about a couple apparently trying to shoplift $20 worth of items from the Woodbury Walmart turned up heroin and drug paraphernalia. Kevin Dale McMillen, 43, of St. Paul Park, now faces a felony drug possession charge stemming from the late November incident. A Walmart employee called police on Nov. 24 after seeing a couple take $19.82 worth of merchandise and leave the store without paying, according to the criminal complaint. When approached by police, the woman, Shelby Jo Cook, 27, admitted to stealing the items, the complaint says. While searching her, police found a syringe tucked into her sock, according to the complaint, and a search of their vehicle turned up a vial with white powder inside, another syringe and a glass pipe …

Woodbury FD Responds To Kitchen Fire, Dog On Ice

It was an otherwise quiet holiday weekend, according to a fire department official.

The Thanksgiving holiday weekend was fairly quiet in the city, according to Mike Richardson, emergency services commander with the Woodbury Fire Department. A Wednesday evening kitchen fire broke out at a home on Hidden Meadow Road, but the homeowner was able to put the fire out with an extinguisher. There was some smoke and fire damage to the kitchen, Richardson said. On Thanksgiving, the fire department was called about a dog on the ice on Battle Creek Lake. Several nearby residents were outside watching, but authorities couldn’t find the dog, Richardson said. Firefighters went out on the lake in a boat and there was about an inch of ice in some areas, he said. It’s unclear if the dog managed to get off the lake or went under. Meanwhile…

Woodbury Police Blotter: Feb. 25-28

Police were called about a few road-rage incidents lately, plus a couple of on-the-spot officers put out small fires using extinguishers from their squad cars.

The following information was obtained from recent police reports. Police were called to the Red Roof Inn on Feb. 25 after an employee there said she wanted a renter evicted. The employee told police that there had been several problems at the room. Four men and one woman left without incident. Police privately asked the woman if she was OK; she said she was. A resident at the 6000 block of Buckingham Road called police on Feb. 25 after a computer went missing while she and her daughter were out of town. They had a house-sitter keeping an eye on the home but found a pair of large tennis shoes that didn’t belong to anyone who lives there when they returned. Woodbury Police Blotter: Feb. 17-23

Police recently responded to Girl Scout cookies stolen from a vehicle parked at the Woodbury movie theater, among other calls.

 The following information was obtained from recent police reports. A resident at the 2400 block of Golf Drive called police on Feb. 17 to report that a $150 GPS and cell phone charger valued at $30 were stolen from a vehicle parked in his garage. Police were called to the 2300 block of Golf Drive on Feb. 17 after neighbors said a man in a hooded sweatshirt tried to open a garage door. One resident made eye contact with the man, who then took off running. Police could not locate the individual but discussed crime prevention with nearby residents. Police were called to the 2100 block of Hemlock Boulevard after a vehicle had a window smashed and a GPS taken from it. A $350 cell phone was reported stolen from the Sprint store on Hudson Road …

Blotter: Vehicle Break-ins, Road Rage, Threats

The police responded to the following select reports from Jan. 13-18.

The following information was obtained from recent police reports. The window of a locked vehicle at the 1100 block of Autumn Drive was broken on Jan. 13 and a backpack containing books and a computer hard drive was reported stolen. Employees at EcoWater Systems in Woodbury called police on Jan. 13 to report that a worker there had been making false allegations in the workplace. The employee accused of making the allegations also told a coworker to “watch your back.” The owner of Rocco’s Pizza told police on Jan. 13 that a female customer staying at the Red Roof Inn had passed bad checks with the Woodbury restaurant. Police responded a rollover accident with injures at Interstate 94 and Radio Drive on Jan. 13. The driver sustained minor …
