Sole Mio to begin offering brunch this Sunday, Lakes Tavern started it up last weekend.
Before he opened Sole Mio Ristorante, Woodbury resident Angelo Montes won several awards for brunch as a chef at other restaurants. “The place I was before was filled every Sunday,” he said. Now, Montes is bringing brunch to Woodbury. Sole Mio will begin offering brunch ($15 adults, $7 kids 5-12, free for children 4 and younger) on Sundays starting Jan. 20. Meanwhile, Lakes Tavern & Grill started its own Sunday brunch on Jan. 13. The buffet brunch at Sole Mio, which opened at the Valley Creek Mall in October 2012, will feature an “American station” and an “Italian station,” Montes said. While the Italian portion will feature pasta, cannoli and the like, Montes said, “We’re in America. That means we need to do what people expect—sausage, …

Washington County libraries were closed on Sundays and Mondays during 2012.
Customers just wanted to say thank you or shake someone’s hand. That was the reaction from patrons at the R.H. Stafford Library following the news that Washington County would restore Sunday and Monday service at the library starting this year, said Chad Lubbers, manager of the Woodbury branch. The new hours go into effect this weekend. “Now, we’re back to where we should have been,” Lubbers said. “It feels like coming home after a long journey.” The Woodbury library will be open seven days a week until June, when it will close on Sundays through the end of August as part of a pilot program. Library officials will examine how that works and determine their options for hours in the future. One interesting note about the reduced hours in …

The arrest was made Sunday morning at the Holiday gas station of Radio Drive.
A man was arrested on a federal pornography warrant Sunday morning in Woodbury. It was a typical traffic stop that led police to identify the man, but he was making furtive movements in the vehicle and an officer drew a gun during the incident, said Washington County Sgt. Tom Stafford. There were no weapons in the car, he said. The arrest was made in the parking lot of the Holiday gas station off Radio Drive at about 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Stafford said. The fire broke out during the early-morning hours of Sunday, Sept. 23.
A Woodbury family was able to escape a major house fire at the 8300 block of Marsh Creek Road during the early-morning hours of Sunday, Sept. 23. The family had a fire in the home's fireplace on Friday and embers were left in a trashcan in the garage, sparking the blaze, said Sgt. Curt Zacharias with the Public Safety Department. “That’s how it's appearing to have started. ... It’s an unfortunate accident,” he said at the scene at about 8:20 a.m. Sunday as smoke still rose from the burned-out structure. No one was hurt in the incident. The Woodbury Fire Department got the call about five minutes after midnight, Zacharias said, and firefighters battled the blaze for hours. One of the children at home woke up and alerted the family about the…

The lights were out from Radio Drive to Woodbury Drive for more than an hour on Sunday.
No one was seriously injured in car crashes along Valley Creek Road after stoplights on the major Woodbury artery went out for more than an hour Sunday. A transformer blew and the lights on Valley Creek Road were out from Radio Drive to Woodbury Drive, said Woodbury Patrol Sgt. Dave Brennen. Some people were hospitalized as a result of the crashes, he said. The lights went out at about 1 p.m. and were back on by 2:20 p.m., Brennen said. There was one crash on Woodbury Drive near Antrim Road that happened just before the lights stopped working. “Just a bizarre coincidence,” Brennen said. There were at least two crashes caused by the lights being out, and police are looking into the possibility that there may have been a third, Brennen said…

With Patch looking on from the judges booth, TV tent and roaming the route, folks enjoyed a comfortable Woodbury Days parade on Sunday.
Take a nice summer day, a few convertibles, classic or otherwise, some old firetrucks, add a politician or two, sprinkle in some beauty queens, acrobats, vulcans and horses, mix well and what do you get? A fun-filled parade, judging by this years Woodbury Days parade crowd.
