Top Stories of 2012, No. 2: X Marks the (Workout) Spot

As we ring in the New Year, here’s a rundown of the most-viewed stories on Patch in 2012.

Editor’s note: This was the biggest surprise when it came to the most-read stories of the year. There wasn’t much to this post, considering I never heard back from company officials. And this story about the changes at the gym seemed to get more steam: Power Lifters Feel Pressed Out at Woodbury’s Xperience Fitness Here’s the story, which was published May 3, 2012. Gold’s Gym in Woodbury is now Xperience Fitness. There is a new sign announcing the change at the fitness center, located at 1555 Queens Drive in Woodbury. Employees there directed Patch to an official in Wisconsin who did not return phone calls seeking comment. Vertical Fitness Group—an Appleton, Wis.-based health club company—has converted 11 Gold’s Gym locations in Minnesota …

Editor’s note: Perhaps I should make this location my top beat. The post about Cowboy Jack’s going in at the spot was our eighth most-read story of 2012. Despite the apparent fanfare with Woody’s, it lasted only five months. Here’s the story, which was published March 26, 2012. One of Woodbury’s more popular bars will soon have a new name and a totally different concept. Throwbacks Grille and Bar is becoming Woody’s Roadhouse. Throwbacks is set to close March 31 for a major renovation and reopen the last week of April as Woody’s, according to General Manager David Harvey. Woody’s will offer steak, burgers, ribs, skewers and rotisserie meats, and transition from a bar decor to a restaurant atmosphere, Harvey said. A chef is being brought in…

Editor’s note: News of the closure of Aperitif got plenty of people wondering what would go in at that location… and apparently Tavern Grill was a good choice. I got word from at least one reader that it was tough to find a table on the Tavern Grill patio this summer. Here’s the story, which was published Tuesday, June 5. Editor’s note: Also a popular story—the news of Woody’s closure, which came as a surprise for many in Woodbury. Cowboy Jack’s seems to be more of a known quantity, but we’ll see how they do when the restaurant opens in 2013. Here’s the story, which was published Oct. 18, 2012. Renovations are underway at the former Woody’s Roadhouse in Woodbury, where crews are turning the space into a Cowboy Jack’s. The renovation only began recently, said Jesi Mosny, marketing director for the After Midnight Group, the holding company for Cowboy Jack’s. An opening date hasn’t been set, she said.
