‘Huge Change’ for Woodbury’s Tropical Ballroom

The dance studio will close soon as owners Tricia and James Wood begin giving lessons completely off-site.

Wood said the …

Woodbury’s Ace Hardware Plans Major Expansion

The hardware store is taking over the Tropical Ballroom space; dance studio moving elsewhere in Valley Creek Mall.

By next spring, Frattallone’s Ace Hardware in Woodbury will more than double in size. “We’re spending a fortune to bring it up to our new standards,” said owner Mike Frattallone. “We’ll be able to serve the community so much better.” The hardware store, which Frattallone purchased in 1997, is planning to move into the space currently occupied by Tropical Ballroom. The expansion will allow for more product lines—Stihl tools for one—and a fresher look, he said. Tropical Ballroom is planning to move down the hall at the Valley Creek Mall. A hardware store has been at that location for decades, Frattallone said. “It needed a facelift, plain and simple,” he said. “We’re taking it from the 1970s to 2013.” The work is expected to begin in late …

With all the retail vacancies, the trends nationwide have been for those types of uses to fill those vacancies...medical in particular. Anything that pops into my mind as far as somewhat …   more ›

Tropical Ballroom Brings West Coast Swing to State Fair

Woodbury dance studio demonstrates and educates Minnesota fairgoers about the California-based dance style.

Woodbury’s Tropical Ballroom showed off some moves—while teaching fairgoers a few—at the Minnesota State Fair last Wednesday. Tricia and James Wood, Tropical Ballroom owners and dance instructors, were joined by students and social dancers to demonstrate the five most common and basic steps of West Coast Swing to fairgoers. Couples were invited to come up onto the outdoor stage for a mini lesson to show the audience that they could learn it, according to Tricia Wood. There was also a jam session in which one male and one female paired up for a social dance, with a different partner jumping in for the male and the female so that partners alternated. Tropical Ballroom presented two shows, with at least 250 people stopping to watch the …
