Senior Living Facility Plans to Build Near Bielenberg Gardens

Saint Therese plans to build a campus adjacent to Bielenberg Gardens.

About a month and a half after plans for a new grocery store were announced for a new Woodbury development, a senior-housing group says it will break ground on a facility adjacent to the urban village this fall. Saint Therese plans to build a new campus near the urban village, called Bielenberg Gardens, located at the southwest corner of Radio Drive and Bailey Road in Woodbury, according to a Tuesday news release. “Saint Therese is delighted to be expanding in the east metro,” President & CEO Barbara Rode said in a statement. “Woodbury is a progressive city supported by innovative leaders seeking the best options for their aging population. We look forward to serving all Woodbury and east metro area seniors and their families as they …

Group Announces Plans for New Grocery Store, Retail Space at Woodbury’s Future Urban Village (Updated)

Bielenberg Gardens, a mixed-use development, is planned at the southwest corner of Radio Drive and Bailey Road.

Plans for a future urban village at the southwest corner of Radio Drive and Bailey Road took a step forward Thursday as a group announced its plans for a grocery-anchored shopping center. United Properties, along with project partner Jerry’s Enterprises, Inc., says it will build a 90,000-square-foot retail center at the site. “We’re very excited to be bringing grocery-anchored retail to serve southern Woodbury,” Keith Ulstad, senior vice president of development at United Properties, said in a release. “Our goal is to create a shopping center that will meet residents’ day-to-day needs with amenities such as a grocery store, coffee shop, gas station and pharmacy.” The grocery will be a Jerry’s Enterprises store, "but the name is to be …

With Urban Village on the Horizon, Woodbury OK's Radio Drive Expansion Plans

Washington County officials also detailed why the Radio Drive-Hargis Parkway intersection will have a signal instead of a roundabout.

As Woodbury prepares for a new mixed-use development at the southwest corner of Radio Drive and Bailey Road, the City Council on Wednesday approved plans for roadway expansion in the area. Radio Drive will be expanded from two lanes to four from Bailey Road to Hargis Parkway, and a third pedestrian underpass will be installed near the Radio-Bailey intersection. (County staff is busy with other projects, so Woodbury is acting as the lead agency for the roadwork.) Bielenberg Gardens, which calls for retail, commercial and residential growth across 200 acres at the site, “is really driving this project,” City Engineer Klayton Eckles said. The developer wants to move forward with the work, and Woodbury is hoping to begin construction next May …

1. What happens when the signal is red to north/south traffic and it backs up to the roundabout at Bailey? 2. Interesting that these "lessons" about roundabouts were learned after they were incorporated in to the Woodbury Dr design over the objections of parents with kids that will have to run the gauntlet at Lake & Woodbury.   more ›

Shaping Woodbury’s Future ‘Urban Village’

The Woodbury City Council on Wednesday approved several changes to a zoning ordinance that will impact how the urban village develops.

As Woodbury looks toward a new “urban village” development, the City Council on Wednesday approved several changes to a zoning ordinance that will help shape the area in the coming years. Many of the changes cleared up language in the ordinance, and conform with changes to state law and the city’s comprehensive plan, said Janelle Schmitz, Woodbury’s economic development director. But the changes will also craft how the urban village—a mixed-use development slated for the southwest corner of Radio Drive and Bailey Road—comes together.       Related: Woodbury Eyes Plans for New Mixed-Use Development The changes adhere to the urban village master plan and, according to a presentation from Schmitz, the ordinance should: The changes would “give…

Woodbury Council Preview: Urban Village, Golf Course Fees

Council members on Wednesday will briefly discuss the master plan for Bielenberg Gardens, a mixed-use development planned southwest corner of Bailey Road and Radio Drive.

The Woodbury City Council has a fairly small agenda planned for Wednesday night, but it does include discussion of one very large project. The city is mulling plans for Bielenberg Gardens, a mixed-use “urban village” development at the southwest corner of Bailey Road and Radio Drive. Plans call for a retail center and medium- to high-density housing. Features of the proposed development include a green-space network, senior housing, water amenities, office space, a pharmacy, and locations for a fast-food establishment and grocer. The council is expected to briefly discuss the master plan document and zoning for the site. The city has received Metropolitan Council funding for a crossing from the urban village to the Bielenberg Sports Center…

Woodbury Eyes Plans For New Mixed-Use Development

Plans call for residential, retail and commercial growth on 200 acres at the southwest corner of Radio Drive and Bailey Road.

The Woodbury City Council on Wednesday took a detailed look at preliminary plans for a new mixed-use development on 200 acres in the southwest portion of the city. Plans for the development—dubbed Bielenberg Gardens—call for retail, commercial and residential growth at the southwest corner of Radio Drive and Bailey Road. Bryan Harjes, an associate with Hoisington Koegler Group, Inc., outlined some of the alternatives and the process during a council workshop. Features of the development include a “green-space network,” senior housing, water amenities, office space, a pharmacy and a location for a fast-food establishment, among other things. The idea, Harjes said, is for a walk-able area that has a “main street character.” Council members …

Woodbury Council To Examine ‘Urban Village’

Plans call for a retail, service and office center with space for medium- to high-density housing at the southwest corner of Bailey Road and Radio Drive

The Woodbury City Council on Wednesday will take a look at plans for an “urban village” at the southwest corner of Bailey Road and Radio Drive. The council is expected to discuss the matter following its regular meeting as part of a workshop that will outline the initial site plans and concepts. Under the city’s 2030 Comprehensive Plan, the parcel was slated as urban village, which is meant to be a smaller version of City Center (the area around Radio Drive and Valley Creek Road), according to council documents. The city envisions the area as a retail, service and office center with space for medium- to high-density housing. It’s intended to be a walkable area, according to a council memo. Funding for the consultant services for the …
