There are only a dozen spots left for people to register for the city’s upcoming Breakfast with Santa event. Set for 9-10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, at Central Park, the event features breakfast from Dorothy Ann Bakery & Café, “elf pants” gift bags from Kinderberry Hill and a “real bearded Santa,” said Elizabeth Owens, recreation technician for Woodbury. The cost is $15, and kids are asked to “dress their best,” Owens said. “I think it’s a great event,” she said. “It’s a little bit more quaint. It’s a cute, fun event, and I think it’s pretty special.” To register, visit the city’s website or call 651-414-3437. For those who don’t get a spot for Breakfast with Santa, he will stick around to take photos with youngsters from 10:30-11:30 a.m. …

The Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Italian restaurant at the Valley Creek Mall.
Angelo Montes said he was emotional and excited. “I’m ready to serve the community,” he said. Sole Mio Ristorante, a new Italian restaurant, opened today, Monday, Oct. 15, at the Valley Creek Mall in Woodbury. It has been a long and sometimes difficult construction process for Montes, owner and chef, but he said he’s pleased with the space. “The restaurant turned out beautiful,” Montes said before a Woodbury Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting. Hundreds of people came for the soft-opening events over the weekend, Montes said. “The food was phenomenal—everybody said it was great,” he said, adding that staff also performed well. The former Mi Familia space has been completely renovated and the menu includes steaks, seafood and pasta, and more…

To be exact, he said he’s “90.235698” sure that will be the day, according to the post. Montes said he would post additional information in the coming days. The new Italian restaurant at the Valley Creek Mall will “give Woodbury the restaurant that’s not here yet,” owner says.
Food, Angelo Montes says, “is art.” “It’s like playing the guitar,” he said. “You play and you enjoy it. But it’s better when you play for others.” Montes is the owner of Sole Mio, a new restaurant set to open in Woodbury’s Valley Creek Mall. After running into some construction issues, the opening has been pushed back to September. A celebrated chef who used to oversee the kitchen at the Chianti Grill, Montes said he’s excited to open in Woodbury, a place he has called home since he moved to the U.S. with his family nearly 13 years ago. “Opening in Woodbury is my dream,” he said. “To me, it’s like where I was born,” Montes added. “It’s my community, and I can’t wait to show the community (Sole Mio).” The former Mi Familia space at the …

Head chef at Chianti Grill in Roseville to open Sole Mio, building management confirms to Patch.
The rumors have been swirling for some time. A new restaurant is coming to the Valley Creek Mall, building management has confirmed to Patch. Angelo Montes, chef at the Chianti Grill in Roseville, is set to open Sole Mio at the mall and plans a $1 million renovation that includes a new bar, patio, fireplace and windows that open, according to a Pioneer Press report. Montes is close to signing a lease for a 6,000-square-foot space at the mall, said Steve Wellington, president of Wellington Management, which manages the building. The lease hasn't been signed yet, but Wellington said he expects it to happen within a week. "This will be a high-quality casual family restaurant with great authentic Italian food," he said. A grand reopening, set for Feb. 25-26, will feature giveaways, prizes donated by local businesses, free fitness assessments and specials for new members.
Deanna Bruneau and her husband Joe used to drive past the Valley Creek Mall Snap Fitness to hit the location father down Valley Creek Road. She said it was cramped and crowded and not well staffed. “We’re going to change all that,” Bruneau said. Late last month Bruneau and her husband purchased the Snap Fitness at the mall, continuing the changes there that began with the Frattallone’s Ace Hardware doubling in size and Tropical Ballroom’s move within the mall. (More on that story.) There are also rumors of a new restaurant opening at the Valley Creek Mall. Bruneau previously worked as an attorney, but working 80 hours a week left her burned out. “I decided to do something different,” she said. Bruneau and her husband, who works in IT at …

Expert gives Woodbury Patch the scoop on the iconic evergreen.
If you’re looking to get a top tree this Christmas season, try the Frasier fir. “It is the Cadillac, for a lot of reasons,” said Clint Wolcyn, whose family owns a Christmas tree farm in Cambridge and has sold them in a lot at Woodbury’s Valley Creek Mall for the past two seasons. “The big thing is needle retention—it’s going to hold its needles until July,” he said. The lot offers four types of trees: balsam, Canaan and Frasier firs, and the white pine. (Some lots sell Scotch pine trees, but Wolcyn cautioned people not to buy them because their needles fall off quickly.) The balsam and Frasier firs are the most popular, but the latter is a bit more costly at $10 to $11 per foot, Wolcyn said. The Canaan is a tree that only came on the …

The hardware store is taking over the Tropical Ballroom space; dance studio moving elsewhere in Valley Creek Mall.
By next spring, Frattallone’s Ace Hardware in Woodbury will more than double in size. “We’re spending a fortune to bring it up to our new standards,” said owner Mike Frattallone. “We’ll be able to serve the community so much better.” The hardware store, which Frattallone purchased in 1997, is planning to move into the space currently occupied by Tropical Ballroom. The expansion will allow for more product lines—Stihl tools for one—and a fresher look, he said. Tropical Ballroom is planning to move down the hall at the Valley Creek Mall. A hardware store has been at that location for decades, Frattallone said. “It needed a facelift, plain and simple,” he said. “We’re taking it from the 1970s to 2013.” The work is expected to begin in late …
