This year’s festival is set for Aug. 23-25.

Want to volunteer at Woodbury Days? An informational open house is scheduled for 7-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 17, at Woodbury Estates Assisted Living, 2825 Woodlane Drive, near Woodbury High School. The Woodbury Days Council—the nonprofit all-volunteer organization that plans Woodbury Days—is looking for “energetic, community-minded people,” to help plan this year’s event, according to a release. This year’s festival is set for Aug. 23-25. “Whether you are a business owner in the community or a resident your expertise and enthusiasm is what we need,” reads part of the release. There are different levels of commitment available: working one shift at the event, helping periodically during the year as needed or being on the council and planning …

Nature Valley Grand Prix Seeks Host Families, Volunteers

Organizers of the Nature Valley Bicycle Festival are seeking host families and volunteers during the Nature Valley Grand Prix, which begins June 12 and concludes five days later on Chilkoot Hill in Stillwater.

Last summer Heather Hampton, owner and instructor for Baby Boot Camp in Woodbury, opened her home to two pro cyclists from the Nature Valley Grand Prix bike race. "We were able to enjoy a couple meals with them and relished in all the information they provided on the subject of road bike racing," Hampton wrote in a June 2012 blog post. "Since my husband and I would rather hit a mountain bike trail instead of the road, we found the subject of road bike racing to be a whole new world. They would occassionally need to 'translate' their bike talk so we could understand. A 'sticky bottle' is when a biker receives a water bottle from the team car and holds on a little longer than necessary for a 'free ride.'" Organizers of the Nature Valley …

Woodbury Volunteers for Habitat for Humanity Playground Project

The group was at the Garden Gate development on Saturday, Sept. 8.

Volunteers were out Saturday helping build a playground at Habitat for Humanity's latest project in Woodbury. Woodbury has more Habitat for Humanity homes than any metro area city outside Minneapolis and St. Paul, and the organization in March marked its 900th home in the Twin Cities area at the local development. The $20,000 playground is the latest addition at Woodbury's Garden Gate development, where where Habitat volunteers have built 15 homes (and will build 19 more in the coming years). The playground will be available for all families to use—not just the homeowners in the Garden Gate development, according to a recent Habitat release. Woodbury Days, City Seek Planners For Bike Rides

Those interested in helping coordinate the annual Woodbury Days bicycle races can contact Theresa Janechek at 651-735-0409 or info@woodburydays.com.

Are you a bicycling enthusiast or just want to get involved in Woodbury? City officials and Woodbury Days organizers are looking for a new planner for the festival’s annual bike ride. For the past three years, Reed Smidt, Woodbury recreation specialist, has run the event. He’s hoping someone, or a group, is willing to take on the work or help during a transitional year for 2012. The planning efforts include finding volunteers, and working with area transportation officials and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Smidt said. He and Woodbury Days organizers hope to find someone to take over by Feb. 15. The rides will be held Saturday, Aug. 25. If they can't find someone to take over, Smidt said he and the Woodbury Days Council would have…
