Witnesses say the 48-year-old River Falls, Wis., woman stopped her vehicle on the shoulder of the bridge Thursday morning, left her 11-year-old daughter inside, climbed over the railing and jumped to her death on the frozen St. Croix River.
St. Croix County Sheriff John Shilts confirmed Friday morning the name of the Wisconsin woman who jumped to her death from the Interstate 94 bridge onto the frozen St. Croix River after leaving her young daughter in the car. Molly Crumley, 48, of River Falls, pulled onto the shoulder of eastbound I-94 on the St. Croix River bridge, exited her vehicle, climbed over the railing and jumped to her death at about 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 27. Looking energetic and sounding "presidential," Mitt Romney turned back President Barack Obama in the first of three debates between the two men vying for the top office in the country. Our panel of local politicos weighed in late last night.
Former Gov. Mitt Romney looked less like a "frontrunner" and more like a man on the attack Wednesday night, emerging as the winner of the first presidential debate, according to participants in the area's "Red Twin Cities" and "Blue Twin Cities" surveys, conducted by Patches around the Minneapolis and St. Paul suburbs and exurbs. The "flash" style polls were conducted just hours after the debate from Denver came to close. Obama "missed his opporunity," according to one Democractic member of our panels. With the weekend announcement of Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin as the vice presidential choice for frontrunner and presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney, Patch reached out for a quick survey of its 100 influential Republicans around the Twin Cities area. Not surprisingly, Red Twin Cities was encouraged by the choice, despite the fact the Romney campaign chose not to go with Minnesotan Tim Pawlenty, another man many figured to be on the "short list" of nominees. The majority of the Republicans who responded in our "snap survey" said the move to add Ryan would "galvanize" Republicans behind the Romney-Ryan ticket. Should Minnesota allow more legit fireworks?
“You’re gonna shoot your eye out!” So says Ralphie’s mom in the beloved movie, A Christmas Story. It’s also a line used by adversaries to this year’s fireworks bill, including Gov. Mark Dayton, who ultimately vetoed the bill back in April. The bill Dayton vetoed would have legalized some aerial fireworks and other novelty, loud, go-boom type devices that many Woodbury folks just jaunt over the river into Wisconsin to purchase anyway. It’s my understanding that any fireworks that leave the ground are illegal for non-professional pyrotechnicians to purchase or use in Minnesota.
