The city administrator’s report provides updates of Woodbury’s courts.
The city administrator’s report for this week’s Woodbury City Council meeting outlines several updates for the city's pickleball courts. Pickleball is “like ping pong being played on a mini tennis court,” Woodbury resident Jim Propes told Patch for a fall 2011 story. Shawnee Park in Woodbury features the largest pickleball site in the state. Neighbors have previously lodged complaints with the city about the sounds of the game, according to a post on the Minnesota Public Radio website from last fall. Check out the video with this post for details on the game. Updates on the courts, via City Administrator Clint Gridley’s report: Portable pickleball courts will be added to the Ojibway Park hockey rink. Staff has ordered portable nets and …

The council meets at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 22, at City Hall.
Volleyball courts at Cowboy Jack’s, a drive-thru at Starbucks and a public hearing on 2013 road projects are on the agenda for Wednesday night’s Woodbury City Council meeting. Cowboy Jack’s, which opened in early May, is seeking a permit for outdoor activities, including volleyball. Owner Chris Diebold previously told Patch there are also plans for games, such as bag toss, at the restaurant. People were signing up for volleyball leagues before Cowboy Jack’s opened, he said. The volleyball court is planned to go in just north of the building. The city Planning Commission on May 6 recommended approval of the request by a 5-1 vote under several conditions, including having activities end by 11 p.m. Related: Woodbury Cowboy Jack’s to Open …

Selected calls to the Woodbury Public Safety Department from May 8-13.
The following information was obtained from recent police reports. A woman staying at the Red Roof Inn with her boyfriend called police because he was drunk and trying to leave with their child. He was upset because he discovered her talking to another man on her cell phone. Police made contact with the man, who showed several signs of intoxication. An officer gave him a ride to a friend’s house in Cottage Grove. A man saw two teenagers with flashlights looking into cars, and they fled toward Tamarack Hills when he opened the door of his home. Police searched the area but did not find the teens. There was no evidence they were able to commit a crime. Police were called about people yelling at each other during a traffic jam caused by the …

Programs begin in June at the R.H. Stafford Library in Woodbury.
With inspiration from the Buffalo Gals folk song, children’s book author Joanne Ryder wrote the words to the picture book Dance by the Light of the Moon. In the story, she has animals gathering for a barnyard dance organized by Farmer Snow. I recently re-read the book to a favorite little person. Charlotte said, “Sing it, Gramma!” And I did, because somehow it’s best that way. And so librarians are saying, “Sing together!” Baby and preschool storytimes around the County feature not just reading, but singing, as well. Children’s picture books, or sometimes phrases from them, just beg to be sung. In Dooby, Dooby, Moo by Doreen Cronin, the author has the animals practicing for a talent show; Duck takes home first prize with his rendition of …
