Woodbury Chamber Announces Citizen, Business, Educator of the Year

The winners will be honored at an upcoming gala.

The Woodbury Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday announced its 2012 Educator, Citizen and Business of the year. The winners will be honored at the chamber’s upcoming gala, set for 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, at the Prom Center in Oakdale. The event is co-sponsored by HealthEast Care Systems and Summit Orthopedics. The 2012 Citizen of the Year is Dwight Picha, community development director for the city of Woodbury. Jan. 1, 2013, will mark 36 years in that capacity for the city, Picha told Patch on Tuesday. When he was first hired, Woodbury had a population of about 8,000; it has since grown to about 64,000. “It’s been an exciting adventure seeing the city grow and develop as it has,” he said. District 833: Woodbury High School’s Brent Comeau Named 2012 Educator of the Year

South Washington County Schools announced the news Friday.

Brent Comeau, Woodbury High School band director, has been named the 2012 Educator of the Year by the Woodbury Chamber of Commerce's education committee. Comeau, nominated by fellow teachers and the school’s principal, is described as the “Energizer Bunny” and as a “master of multitasking,” according to a Friday release from South Washington County Schools. He teaches the symphony, varsity and concert bands, as well as the extracurricular jazz bands, pep band, state band and marching band, the release says. “Nominators noted his dedication and how he spends additional hours before and after school, on weekends and in the summer working with students,” according to the release. Woodbury Chamber Seeks Award Nominations, Plans Business Symposium

Nominate the city’s top citizen, business and educator; symposium set for early November.

The Woodbury Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday announced that it will begin taking nominations for top business, citizen and educator of the year. Plans are also set for a small-business symposium later this fall. The period to nominate Woodbury’s business, citizen and educator of the year is now open. One individual in each category will be recognized for his or her “accomplishments, diligence, and contributions to the community” during the chamber’s annual gala, set for Jan. 25, 2013.
