Woodbury Mail Theft Case Update: Third Person Charged

Three people have now been charged stemming from the December 2011 incident.

Another person has been charged with felony aiding and abetting mail theft in connection with a December 2011 incident in Woodbury.  Samantha Mary-Helen Siples, 24, of Burnsville, was among the four people stopped in a van after police got a Dec. 9, 2011, tip about mail theft at the 7700 block of Havenwood Circle, according to the criminal complaint. Inside the van, police found mail from at least nine people, Social Security numbers from eight people, ID from at least nine people and washed or altered checks totaling $9,000, the complaint says.  Woodbury police issued a warning about an uptick in mail theft in the city last winter. Woman Charged After Police Bust Group Allegedly Stealing Mail in Woodbury

Woodbury police last winter issued a warning to residents about an increase in mail theft in the area.

A Roseville woman has been charged with felony aiding and abetting mail theft stemming from a December 2011 incident in Woodbury.  Lori Ann Grimm, 35, was among four people stopped in a van following a Dec. 9, 2011, tip about mail theft at the 7700 block of Havenwood Circle, according to the criminal complaint. Inside the van, police found mail from at least nine people, Social Security numbers from eight people, ID from at least nine people and washed or altered checks totaling $9,000, the complaint says.  Last winter Woodbury police issued a warning about an uptick in mail theft in the city. This sure makes me glad that we have a secured mailbox, that's provided by the postal service. One of the many advantages to living in a townhome. I think if I lived in a regular house I would figure out where to get a secured box that only you and the post office have access to.   more ›

Updated: Arrest Made In Woodbury Mail Theft Case

St. Anthony police arrested a man believed to be involved in a string of mail thefts in Woodbury.

A man suspected in a string of mail thefts in Woodbury was arrested by St. Anthony, MN, officers Sunday night. Woodbury since late October has seen a string of mailbox-related incidents, everything from mail stolen outright to it being strewn about streets and found elsewhere. St. Anthony authorities say the man arrested is a 20-year-old from St. Paul. He was stopped for a traffic violation near Larpenteur and Snelling avenues in Falcon Heights. During the traffic stop, St. Anthony police found the man with mail from Woodbury, said Cmdr. Jay Alberio of the Woodbury Police Department. Just because they got this guy doesn't mean everyone's mail is safe now. Mail theft is a huge problem all over the country - it's one of the easiest ways for thieves to steal your sensitive information for identity theft, and it's happening every day. Locking mailboxes are a present day must, as is vigilance with outgoing mail. Use online bill pay when possible.   more ›

Woodbury PD Blotter: Self-Home Invasion, Diaper Dandy, Pills Purloined

The following information was obtained from recent police reports. A resident called police after seeing two men deposit a metal-framed table, couch and mattress in a dumpster at Woodbury Estates. A car parked at the 1600 block of Century Circle was keyed. Issues with mail being tampered with were again reported, this time at the 8500 block of Ashford Road. The city has sent out a notice advising people to be on the lookout for mail theft. Nearly $1,500 in electronics was stolen from Target; police believe the subjects are part of a string of similar thefts across the Twin Cities. The following information was obtained from recent police reports. There were reports of a wrong-way driver at the Interstate 494-Valley Creek Road ramp. A resident at the 2000 block of St. Johns Place was warned about not picking up his dog’s leavings. The resident acknowledged he could be better about it. Using duct tape, someone made a Star of David in the road at the 1200 block of Donegal Bay. A resident told police he did not think it was directed specifically at anyone in the neighborhood. The license plates of a vehicle parked at Woodwinds Health Campus were reported stolen. Woodbury PD Blotter: More Mail Messes, Patting Problem, Gift Lifted

The following information was obtained from recent police reports. A resident at the 1400 block of Belmont Drive told police he found his neighbor’s mail in a neat stack in his front yard. He returned the mail. Police have warned residents about a rash of mail theft in Woodbury of late. For the second time in a week, concrete blocks were stolen from a retaining wall A.J. Alberts Plumbing. A Leatherman tool valued at $85, a power converter and Army knife were reported stolen from a vehicle parked at the 7800 block of Somerset Court. Textbooks were also taken but found later down the street. A resident at the 10600 block of Pinnacle Way reported that her mail had been tampered with recently. The same can be said for locking your mailbox! With the prevalance of mail-identity theft now in Woodbury but for quite some time in neighborhoods across the country, residents would be wise to use a high security locking mailbox! This keeps thieves from rummaging through your mail for ID theft!!!!   more ›

Woodbury Sees Uptick In Mail Theft

The city sent out a notice on Friday asking people to be on the lookout for suspicious happenings near mailboxes.

Woodbury officials on Friday said there has been in increase in mail theft in the city recently. Patch on Nov. 5 reported that several mailboxes had letters stolen from them around the 1400 block of Donegal Drive. A notice from the city asked for those who are victims of mail theft, or notice anything suspicious, to call the Woodbury Police Department, 651-439-9381. It would be helpful to get a license plate number if possible, the notice says. The Woodbury Police Department, on its Facebook page, put out some information from the U.S. Postal Service about how to prevent mail theft:
